Just installed, and saw some funny business, an inst.exe and some pcouffin files: security catalog, setup info, text document and system file all showed up in my application data folder. The inst.exe tried to get to the internet through my firewall which was what tipped me off. Anyone have a similar experience or know what's up?

Otherwise, the program seems to work just fine.

11.Posted by R3C0N on Jan 15 2008 at 05:12

inno unpack it (innounp) to see your funny business where ever you get inst.exe it's not from this program.
I did unpack the installer and there nothing about system files or inst.exe what lukasjack says

12.Posted by CMajorDane on Jan 15 2008 at 06:54

actually lucas could be right. I just just got a virus from one these dvdfabs. I used systam restore to get rid of it as my CA Security Suite detected it, deleted it, but it kept coming back. Beware

13.Posted by CMajorDane on Jan 15 2008 at 07:05

Remember, not all malware is destructive or visibly problematic. Sometimes they can log keystrokes to get passwords and other info. Sometimes they can be used to have some level of control of your machine remotely. That's why it wanted access to the internet. Most of the time trojons self replicate (that's why it coming back). Unless you are running an exceptional Anti-virus and firewall, do not download this torrent.

Google: inst.exe

14.Posted by AxMan2007 on Jan 15 2008 at 07:10

@lukasjack
Maybe the download counter is the thorn in your eyes to tell such lies.
innounp: http://innounp.sf.net/test020.rar for extracting inno v5.2.x
after you extract the installer just like winrar or zip sfx... please tell me where should security catalog, setup info, text document, inst.exe coming from!
I remove in applications online connection requests (call homes) but i never add it. See FlashFXP, Throttle, RSS Submit,... just another n00b got a key but supply it with a untouched program exe and how long will it works until one found the call home in the app. Be4 it unregister it by self or give a nice hit to the manufacture page back to count how many use a "shared key".

15.Posted by AxMan2007 on Jan 15 2008 at 07:12

Otherwise all exe and dll just check with ExeInfo PE, follow the hints to unpack, extract to ensure there are no virus inside. You found the application folder, go to Program Files\Program folder and open with notepad unins*.dat (Inno Setup Uninstall Log) to see what have been installed. :(
Total commander maybe give you a easier operation :)

16.Posted by AxMan2007 on Jan 15 2008 at 07:21

Maybe hack this Piece of cake by self is the best or buy it, if you even not can locate what comes from where.

17.Posted by AxMan2007 on Jan 15 2008 at 07:27

next time i post the checksum and switch on by generated setups "setup logging" by installing to be for sure that no one put anything inside the setups from me.

18.Posted by CMajorDane on Jan 15 2008 at 07:30

Not sure what you just said, but I had a winstock32 and an AVP in startup in msconfig soon after I downloaded this dvdfab and another version. I'm not positive this one had the virus. I would be mindful, though.

19.Posted by CMajorDane on Jan 15 2008 at 07:32

this was yours?

20.Posted by AxMan2007 on Jan 15 2008 at 07:39

Im not sure but my name seems to be inside the about box. LEt me check this first if someone have done a bad joke.

Please unpack the installer http://innounp.sf.net/test020.rar
to be sure and see whats inside. There must be something like:
install.iss open the script with notepad to see what it does (all files are listed there)

21.Posted by CMajorDane on Jan 15 2008 at 07:46

Tell you what. If its yours, you check it. I wasn't trying to help you. the post for those who may not know as much as you about torrents.

22.Posted by CMajorDane on Jan 15 2008 at 07:48

29.Posted by AxMan2007 on Jan 16 2008 at 10:40

I did check it. There NO VIRUS. To prove run the setup filename.exe with parameter: DVDFab Platinum v4.0.5.0 Final Full.exe /LOG
goto Temp folder and view the log file (what have been installed), looks like: Setup Log 2008-01-16 #001.txt

/LOG
Causes Setup to create a log file in the user's TEMP directory detailing file installation and [Run] actions taken during the installation process. This can be a helpful debugging aid. For example, if you suspect a file isn't being replaced when you believe it should be (or vice versa), the log file will tell you if the file was really skipped, and why.
The log file is created with a unique name based on the current date. (It will not overwrite or append to existing files.)
or:
/LOG="filename"
Same as /LOG, except it allows you to specify a fixed path/filename to use for the log file. If a file with the specified name already exists it will be overwritten. If the file cannot be created, Setup will abort with an error message.

fast download, the purpose that I wanted this was to get it to convert a divx/avi to dvd, but it only offers dvd to divx. Although it's great if you want it to convert to psp, xbox360, ipod. I haven't tested in burning a dvd.
