To save, go to "options", "emulator" and check "real time clock", and then "option", "emulator", "save type" and check "flash 128k"
It should work

As for the "The battery has run dry......" message, it happens because mostly all games in the Pokémon series need an internal clock to run (because of some particular game features). If it's an original Pokemon cartdrige for GB, it'll have a clock built in, and a battery to feed it. But if you're playing it in an emulator, as a ROM, there's no battery or clock whatsoever. Therefore time-based event's will no longer occour (and believe, Pokémon games have A LOT of time-based events, mainly in the end) ie: Berries will not grow, etc. But your emulator (VBA v1.8 in this case) is very ass-kicking and emulate an internal clock for the game too. 
The sollution is as well simple. Go to:
OPTIONS > EMULATOR > REAL TIME CLOCK
Check it, exit the emulator and start it again.
Now you should open Pokémon Emerald and play it with no problems and be happy with it untill death do you part.

I can't save my progress so i have to star all over!! When i save i go to the start menu with the bags and pokemons and others and then press save. Then i quit and i can't find the saved file or in the same game on the first menu theres no continue or load game option. I'm playing on this pc. Help please!

Try setting a specified directory for the emulator to load the Save files and Battery files. Create the "Battery" and "Save" folders wherever you desire and then in VBA go to:
Options > Emulator > Directories
Point to the two folders you've just created and then you should be able to load-save games.

For all you people who don't know how to save:
In-game:
Goto File (in left upper corner of VBA)
Goto Save Game
Click on the first number (1)
Then your game is saved.
To load it:
Goto File
Goto Load Game
Click on your saved file in this case 1.

Im using XP with SP3, and i've also tried playing with SP2 (Original OS). I don't think my OS has anything to do with this problem. Any help would be appreciated!! (This happens with all ROMS i try to play, i tried to configure/change a lot of options but with no results)

Thanks uploader, you couldn't have done a better job! For anyone wondering, this torrent if FOR SURE worth a download. I have window's vista on an old laptop from like 99' and it downloaded and was up and running in about 30 min. This is BY FAR the easiest thing I've ever downloaded or used, it's almost as easy/easier than downloading a movie. It's the exact definition of "click and play"...all you do is download, click then play. It's GREAT. Way to go wee greg, thanks a lot.
For anyone wondering, A and Z on the keyboard work as A and B from the gameboy controls (from the dungeon game at least). Once agian, a 5 year old could download and work this, great work.

I have a problem, i reached island three after getting the 7th badge in fire red. there r a group of bikers there which i'd normally have to fight to continue the game, but when i talk to them they talk with 2 villagers there and the fight doesnt start. am stuck cause theres nothing else to do and i cant go back to kanto. plz help

Hi, I'm having the same problem as posts Nr. 15 (nothingface), 32 (1jbong), 37 (krono) and 44 (unsun): When I try to run a game, either by dragging the .gb file on the emulator, or by File --> Open from the emulator, or by "Open With" when right clicking a .gb file and selecting the emulator, it says: error opening image x:\xxx\All Pokemon Games (GBA)\GameBoy-GameBoy Colour Games\Pokemon Blue.gb (or whatever the file name is). I tried to copy them to the local drive and renaming them, putting them in the same folder as the emulator, but it wouldn't help. I have Windows XP. Could anybody please help?

Hmm, pokemon Fire Red will not save (in the game) the only way I can see to save is by using the Save state option
leaf green will save however, it is just fire red that won't

look man you have to help me...I downloaded your torrent, I opened the VisualBoyAdvance.exe file and I pressed File->Open as you wrote on the instructions but then when I tried to open any of the pokemon games there appeared a message tha said : "Error opening image C:\Documents and Settings\.... etc.
What should I do to play the games???
