this movie is fantastic audio 10/video 10 comes with english subtitles but need to change them to... The Warlords[2007]DvDrip[Mandarin]-FXG.srt exactly as i've written it using [] for brackets not {},and they play just fine on vlc player and burn aswell using WinAvi 8

If you have VLC, it doesn't matter what the subtitle file is called. Just go to File, Open File..., find the file in the first Browse box, and click the checkbox that says "Use a subtitles file" and find that file in the 2nd browse box. I always end up renaming my files anyway, so this way, I can always get it to work no matter what.

Don't worry. IVE DONE IT! I feel like I have climbed Everest. :D I will share the info with those of you who also didn't know. Once downloaded, go into the folder where the movie is saved. There should be three files. Highlight and "copy" the whole file name of the avi file. Then highlight the srt file, and "paste" the name over the existing srt file name. So both srt and avi names should be exactly the same, except one should end with avi, the other with srt. Now when you play the avi file, the subtitles should appear. :)

justinx28, you must make sure the whole text of the srt file is highlighted, ie clicking it twice but not a double click (if you know what i mean), then hold down control and push v. Hope that helps.

To get any subtitles to work whether .sub or .srt, the name of the movie file such as the .avi file has to have the same exact name file name as the subtitle file, in this case .srt. In this case the two files do match and all you have do match the .avi file name to the .srt file name and then use vlc player to make sure it works. In this case:

The Warlords[2007]DvDrip[Mandarin]-FXG : name of the avi file

The Warlords[2007]DVDrip[Mandarin]-FXG.srt : name of the srt file

Hi im having problems with the subs - read all the above suggestions and followed the rules (i renamed it so now they are the same but one is .sub & in the same folder) however, it won't play on WMP or WMP classic WITH THE SUBS! when i delete them the movie plays - but hey im not Chinese to understand it...
What am i doing wrong?

Use ConvertXToDVD to convert to DVD file and Nero to burn. Make sure your ConvertXToDVD settings are set to English subs and that's it.

WOW - What a brilliant film - just had to leave some feedback.
First off - Picture 10 out of 10 and Audio 10 out of 10.
Wasn't sure if i could get into a subtitled film again but nobody should worry - the english translation is excellent and easy to read.
I enjoyed this epic film a lot more then House of flying daggers, crouching tiger and hero etc etc.
No flying through the air or dancing on trees here -just epic well directed battles with plenty of gore and a really good story line.
Jet Li and the rest of the cast were superb and the story had me thinking about the hard moral choices the characters had to make.
Don't pass this one up guys - it's a classic film and you will enjoy it.
Makes a great change from glossy hollywood remakes!

justinx28. Try this; Do as I said with the renaming of the two titles in VLC player (post 46). Then try playing it on your computer in Windows Media Player. The subtitles should appear. I then use Convertxtodvd, and when that has done, insert a disk, and it will copy it for you. U don't need another program to burn it. When I then played the disk on my dvd player, I had to push the subtitle button to make them appear. That's all I can say. :D

The easiest way to hardburn in the subs is to rename the sub same as the avi with the extension.srt as everyone is saying. Then load the avi into AutoGK. Hold down control+F8. Load the .srt file into the window that just appeared. Set it for one pass quality based encoding of 100%. This will give you a file pretty close to the original quality. The problem is, of course, it will then be too big to burn to one CD. Split the resultant file which should be about 1 GB into 2 files using VirtualDubMod and burn to 2 Cd's. You could set AutoGK for 2 pass encoding at 2 CD size and let AutoGK split it for you but your quality is not going to be any better and it will take five times as long. You can set AutoGK for 2 pass encoding setting file size at 700 MB but you're going to lose a lot of quality.

If the sub files are imbedded into the file you downloaded they are there after you burn it to CD as well. A good percentage of downloaded movie files have external subs as a separate file with extensions like .srt, .sub, .idx or a few other types. If you are planning on watching these movies on your computer just make sure you burn the subfiles to disc as well. If you're planning on watching them using a standalone DVD Player like the Philips DVP642 and a television you have to mux them together and then burn the resultant file to disc. Make sure if you have multiple subtitle files you pick the right language. You don't want to spend 6 hours muxing and burning to discover you're got Chinese audio and Serbo-Croation subs. I gave some ideas about how to mux them in my previous comment.

tried everything to get the subs to burn on Nero, will not do it. the opy paste thing doesnt work. cant watch on media player. vlc plays but no subs. the dl is a 10/10 but whats the point I mont oriental so I cant follow movie. can however watch with subs on nero showtime.

Help!! I also can't get the subtitle file to work. I copied the name of the video file (.avi) and pasted it over the subtitle file (.srt) and now the video won't play. So, i tried to add .avi to the title of the video file and then .srt to the title of the subtitle file after i had changed the name and the video played again but there were no subtitles. I'm using windows media player on a Windows XP. I've downloaded other subtitled files before, that had .srt and .avi and they have worked fine so i don't know why this one won't. Could somebody please explain to me what i'm doing wrong?? Is there something i have to do to link the video file and the subtitle file together or something??

Also, when i downloaded the files, it doesn't say .avi or .srt after the name (i can't see this). But when i go into properties, it says on the little icon that its a .avi file but it doesn't actually say what kind of file the subtitles is until i try to "open" it and then the windows media player says it doesn't support .srt files. But other subtitled videos that i've downloaded use .srt files and i can see the subtitles just fine so i don't realy know what going on!!

Man I farked around for ages trying to get the subs to work on this, vlc player plays them fine, cheers for the tip guys.

I can't believe how many people were having trouble with the subs....I stopped reading after post #6, played with VLC, and it worked perfectly the first time. Under the 'Video' menu in VLC, you have to select 'Track 1' under the 'Subtitles Track' submenu each time you play the file. The whole thing with copying and pasting the .srt file is just to make sure the .srt file has the same name as the video file.

Video: 10/10
Audio: 10/10

(1) use vlc player, under "File", click "Open File..." from there, u can manually select the movie file & subtitle file to load... OR
(2) make sure movie & subtitle files have the same name, and when u play the movie, subs should load, however (2) doesnt always work, i find, but (1) works all the time
