Thank You, CBC!
Now how about CBC providing us with CBC's jPod TV series on BitTorrent?

3.Posted by mike1253 on Mar 25 2008 at 08:29
Does anyone else find it amusing that the official CBC website links to mininova, a site that hosts torrents for stolen software?
4.Posted by TheOneX on Mar 25 2008 at 11:35
@mike1253, it's not a website that hosts stolen software... it's a place to SHARE files.
on-topic: at the moment i have a share ratio of 7.505 on this torrent with 4gig uploaded.
Will try seeding even more than that.

Thanks for being open minded for a technology! I hope you'll share more TV-series on torrent network. BitTorrent is the future and CBC can be part of it.

Thanks CBC, I support your values, and Kill Your TV.

Wow, I think the CBC is the first national network to "get it", and get it *right*.
I, too, am surprised there are no ads. I suspect their advertising department's ad-booking software can't handle the concept of torrents yet.

It's pretty sweet to see a major network take the popularity of bittorrent seriously. Many of us don't even turn on a TV anymore, and I'd gladly watch officially provided shows from bittorrent even if they did contain ads.
A few small criticisms, which are to be expected as this is a first for a major network. The quality of this video is not great. It's interlaced, which is very obvious on my monitor....movement produces scan-line segmentation. It's the wrong aspect ratio, as all the faces are stretched vertically.
The file size is also way bigger then it should be for a video of this quality and resolution. I would suggest using a more modern codec like H264 or adjusting the parameters. Most people who download torrents have no trouble playing a wide variety of videos, and players like the open source mplayer come packaged with support for virtually everything.

No, please don't just use H264. If they do this again, they should do it like they did this time, an Xvid version and an MP4 (for iPod users). Having those two different versions is better because more people are able to run this right off the bat, without getting specific codecs.
And this is what we want -> EASE OF USE. Very important if people are going to jump on the bandwagon.

Go CBC! I just wish you guys would continue jPod and release it exclusively on torrents, it's the funniest Canadian show I've ever seen and most of its fan would probably prefer watching it on their computers rather than on TV.

this is amazing, even if i dont care for the show, way to go CBC! d/l this ppl

Actually the show is very good. A panel of former Prime Ministers and a current provincial Premier judge a competition between four bright young hopefuls who are presenting their ideas for a better Canada. The show's format recalls countless other talent competitions, but the seriousness of the premise and the earnestness of the competitors results in a show of a much higher calibre.
Yet another reason why Canadians should feel proud of their national public TV network.

H264 is part of the MPEG-4 standard, and completely free. I don't see why there would still be any players out there that don't support it/include it by default.
Never the less, this is a poor example of xvid. Like I said, it's interlaced, it has a terrible compression ratio and it's out of aspect. Xvid is a good codec, brutally mutilated in this example.

It's all a matter of taste.
Good show.

Excellent CBS! I hope one of there bloggers follows up on this page.
I couldn't care less if advertising were ever inserted into the show. This is fanastic being able to watch it whenever I please. I hope this sets a precadent for the future.

After a great RCA/CBC audio/video section online, doing this was the next logical step. Hope you'll keep doing this. The television era as we once knew it has ended for many of us, frack I don't even own a TV !

if you use vlc player you can de-interlace as well as adjust/correct the aspect ratio. commenter 16, spectre39: i haven't even seen the show but you come off like a spoiled baby, whining is so unbecoming. if you've negative comments regarding the show, voice them with respect for the efforts of all those involved, who believe it or not, are, even if motivated by profit, working their poor out-of-touch geezer asses off to produce a show that your lazy ass likes enough to consume.

ha, given the random words blocked by the new censoring software i'm finding it kinda hilarious right now that they forgot to include 'asses' on the 'banned words' list...

best move ever by the national TV
thanks a lot cbc for using this great tech
too bad BELL decided to implement P@P throttling/packet management to screw all bit torrents users jsut at the same time you did that, as now canadians will think BT is shi77y
25.Posted by aRnads on Apr 09 2008 at 01:13
too bad jpod won't last any longer.
give us that on bittorrent cbc and i'll be satisfied.
thanks for sharing cbc

CBC made a wise choice. Many wouldn't probably ever even try this show but with the new move they gain much more viewers, me being one of them. Thanks CBC from Finland.
Nice speed right from the start over 1mB/s, will surely seed.
27.Posted by steelcityroller on May 28 2008 at 06:25
This is very progressive thinking and i would never have expected it from CBC. I ignored the show when it aired figuring it would be a load of **** because it was CBC, but maybe I was wrong so I will download, seed, and give it a chance.
Now if only we could get somebody to upload every Rick Mercer episode then life would be even better!
28.Posted by moxin (moderator) on May 28 2008 at 06:31
we can only hope other networks catch on..
thanks cbc!..

Throughly enjoyed watching, this is a great step in the right direction.
Above comments about encoding correctly would need to be address though.
But hey I watched something that came from TV for once
