i installed the k-lite codec pack and media player classic
but when i played it, even with the audio volume boosted the sound failed miserably and the voices were inaudible when any other background music or sounds were on. I tried playing the audio through a bose system, my tv, and some other speakers but none of them worked...

I can't find French subtitles synchronised with the movie.
There's a 20 sec delay in all the ones I tried.

just go to
http://www.bsplayer.com
and download the free version of that software
unless if you want to pay for the pro version
then install the software and play your movies with it
now you can fix that problem by pressing Ctrl & (Left "-1sec" OR Right "+1sec"
by the way, to be more specific press Shift & (Left "-0.20sec" OR Right "+0.20sec"

NOTE: you have to do that each time you want to play a movie has a problem like that, so don't think when you fix it once it's gonna be fixed 4ever, but believe me """it worth it"""
