not to sound sceptical, but up to SIXTY times faster?!?! let's say takes 6 minutes to boot up normally, 360 seconds, you're suggesting it can be as quick as SIX SECONDS?!?!?

when it's mentioned "on a network" does it mean that Im connected to other computers? or even I have one computer and Im connected to the net, Im still on a network?

I'll give you a hint on how to make XP boot faster... install it onto a Mac

I share spider-man's doubts: I've got a leading-edge desktop system, which launches Windows XP Pro in under a minute. Forgive me, but I don't belive it could be done in a second.

Yea the advertised time is fake. Just to get attention. some of the tips are good, but most are ones I already knew by common sense.
If you're a newb, this is great and will help you most likely - if you're a pretty seasoned PC user like myself, this won't help you much. Maybe 1-2 seconds off your boot time.

Some of the items are correct, but instead of spybot which don't pick up much try tune up utilities 2008 and for extra safety use pointstone system cleaner 5 and yeah get rid of norton it drags all programs down hope this helps

I'll give this a try though I doubt I can squeeze any more speed out of my OS. heck the RAID card takes longer to scan 4 hard drives at POST than the OS itself takes to load.

@5, why would you wanna do that. a mac is just a pc done by vtech buddy
n costs twice as much if not more.

My bootup time is 10000 times faster... I don't turn it off
If I have to reboot it's time out for a coffee.

sorry to be so impatient but Is it 60 times faster or not guys?
13.Posted by defconsuperpower on Apr 16 2008 at 16:19
^not likely.
If you can start xp in 30-60 seconds its about as fast as it will ever be unless you have a Solid State Hard disk.

I have a suggestion instead of downloading and reading a pointless guide, or running a hundred programs.
Download Bootvis: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=664
Run program, click Trace from the top menu then select "Next Boot + Driver Delays". Restart PC and wait for program to run automatically.
Then click Trace again and select "Optimize". Restart PC one last time then let it run and optimize. Presto, Win XP will start a ton faster.
I'd also say to stay away from Diskeeper and the other programs mentioned. If you want a nice defrag program, use guiJKDefrag which is simpler, doesn't even need to be installed and is more efficient for gaming. And use Spyware Blaster to prevent spyware, isntead of having to use Search and destroy and Adaware to fix stuff. Less bloat is always better.

most downloads from Major geeks have viruses in them. And softpedia and brothersoft.com.
19.Posted by Smicallion on Apr 21 2008 at 18:54
I've never once had any problems with Softpedia or MajorGeeks. You must use a poor virus scanner like AVG, which detects trojans when they aren't. I can assure you that link doesn't direct you to something with a virus. And you could just Google for Bootvis to get it from another site anyway, it's a very common program people use for Win XP to make it boot a ton faster.
Also, why even use a virus scanner? I haven't in years and never have any problems. Unless you're messing around on warez sites or are dumb enough to download/open suspicious files, you don't even need one running in the background wasting resources.

keep in mind this says Windows will boot faster
your hard drive speed and your motherboard are still going to be the same

Sorry, but here's the lowdown on bootvis:
"Bootvis.exe is a performance tracing and visualization tool that Microsoft designed to help PC system designers and software developers identify performance issues for boot/resume timing while developing new PC products or supporting software.
Please note that Bootvis.exe is not a tool that will improve boot/resume performance for end users. Contrary to some published reports, Bootvis.exe cannot reduce or alter a system's boot or resume performance. The boot optimization routines invoked by Bootvis.exe are built into Windows XP. These routines run automatically at pre-determined times as part of the normal operation of the operating system."

Guys, i read it and it means 60% faster, not 60 TIMES faster as stated. Not a bad book but i've seen much better "faster booting xp" on mininova

Mine can even Hyperspace, it started 20 second before you reach for the start button.

Well, sheeeeeeee it, john25, when I go to be, my pc always does a bunch of diagnostic and maintenance stuff then shuts itself down, then everyday, about 15 minutes afore I wake, it boots up and fetches my coffee and by the time I drain the nozzle, it's all systems go. Is that cool or what, eh?

I can!

Basically its a short list of things you can do to make your boot time reduced.
This involves stopping services and such ++
I also recommend
1.uninstall all the c-r*a^p programs that you don't really need
2.installing Diskeeper
3.removing Norton fully and installing nod32 eset instead,
4.run Ad-aware,
5.run Spybot search & destroy
6.run RegSupreme Pro
I think you know where to get teh software
