the language is PL and you can change it by auto updates or using this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/unlimitedpotential/programs/llp.mspx
and then click Localization Language Offerings
P.S.:english is not available there 
but u can try downloading your native language

when you say during the windows update i'm not sure what to click because the english is so poor i can't make it out. i've had vista for over a year at least i think and am pretty familiar but don't remember how to to search for an update unless you mean listed in the first set of updates coming. but in that case i don't see it

Get Rid of Polish Language
--------------------------------------------
1. Yes it is in polish (i'm here to help).
2. enter serial and just click 'the polish word for NEXT 
' at the bottom right of the window and type in your account name and computer name when prompted.
3.after it installs and loads to the Desktop, click these two links.

4. double click Vistalizator_1.36.zip and drag the Vistalizator_1.36 folder to your desktop and then double click on Vistalizator inside of that folder.

5. after you've opened the program click ADD LANGUAGE and look for that 2nd download(lp-en-us_15ef57e54b23adc1672991ecacb8594f044b9c3d.exe)
6. Click install
7. and the rest is easy as pi*r^2, just kidding 
it will just ask you if you want to set it as the display language and ask you to exit the program so it can restart.
Took 2 and 1/2 days for me to download
average download speed: 15-50kb/sec

Actually, I found serial key somewhere in the internet, if anyone needs it, let me know, I'll post a link here. Everything works fine, but when I changed the language to English, only the months are still in Polish language. But everything else is now English, great copy of windows vista.
