Anyone care to comment as to what applications and methods are used to make rips like aXXo? I'm not looking to compete. I would like to at least make them as good as aXXo. Minus of course trying scores and scores of various applications in hopes of finding something that at least works as well as the outcome that aXXo's are. Thank you to all that are helpful.

annandnancy, its not a matter of the software you transcode with, but the settings you use to encode it

It can be a long, arguous process of trial and error to get the settings just right for each different screen format. not many will tell you their primary settings, that would be hand-feeding, and thats not likely to happen, mostly due to the labour and time involved. i won't give you any of my personal configs, but i'll tell you that NO software is gonna do what you're lookin for right outta the box, neither did aXXo's.

@skunkislife 5.1 sound would add a bigger sound file than the regular mp3 that axxo rips which would make the the movie a 2 cd file. i think axxo is trying to keep his files one cd so i doubt he would release in 5.1 sound.

@annandnancy i used to rip back when there wasn't any one click programs and what i used was a program called avisynth where you wrote a script using notepad to create a file called .avs which you can load into Virtualdub and encode a movie into a small file. you can load filters into avisynth to help compress the file and make the video look smoother or sharper depending on the film your encoding. i believe this is the process that axxo uses and it works really well and fast. for sound, probably use besweet program or goldwave.
