Nice upload. Can anyone tell me though why all 720p uploads have to be in MKV? What's wrong with AVI or DivX? They are a pain in the arse as my HD media player can't play them, neither can the PS3. They take a whole day to convert and then often don't play properly - far too much hassle to be worth it really.

@3 720p HDTV releases video are h.264 encoded giving you much better quality than xvid or divx while keeping the same filesize. The AVI or DIVX container formats don´t support h.264 correctly. Guess MP4 or MOV could be used but you´ll have to recompress the ac3 audio to aac, BUT WHY BOTHER when MKV supports any kind of compressed video/audio besides being able to hold subtitles too. If you are interested take a look at a comparison of container formats like AVI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_container_formats

There's only one problem with a release of this nature. With it being a US show being shown on UK TV it suffers from 4% speedup, making voices music and everything sound slightly higher-pitched. This is unavoidable due to the UK/Europe PAL system where everything has to be played back at 25fps to avoid judder on PAL TVs.
Even UK Blu-rays play back at 25fps. On the PS3 you have to select the option to play them at 24fps to get the right speed for movies and US TV shows.

If you mix Jill Kelly and Janine Lindemulder together, you get Tricia Helfer.

For ian1107 I have the same problem that the mkv will not play on the PS3. To overcome this problem I use a converter mkv2vob (google it). Its fairly quick at making the conversion and as far as I can tell the image quality is not reduced.

Thanks for the episode, It's pretty neat having this even though it won't
be playing in my area for a few days
a bit off topic but in the same area we have been commenting on. I use a phillips stand alone DVD player that supports USB (I use an 8 and a 4 Gig pocket USB drive) and decodes DIVX just fine but my main problem is that with USB I only get 8 characters for filenames. This torrent would display in the file menu as battle~1 , battle~2 etc. Does anyone own a stand alone that has USB input and gives more than 8 character titles on USB file input.
My DVD's have a different limitation (14 characters) but at least they don't waste 2 with the ~1 ~2 etc
any stand alones that will display more characters for DVD
and.....
Does anyone own a stand alone that does X264, MP4 (MKV)
I don't play games at all
I am looking to order another stand-alone that does X264 (not really wanting blue ray yet) I want to spend <$150 US
recommendations???
Thanks in advance

@ #5 Pooboy & #8 Freepost. I also recommend GOTSent 0.23 its easy + free. What it does is convert just the audio and repack it as a mp4. Works for XBox 360 + PS3. Only problem is it has to down convert to stereo (for compatibility)if its 5.1

MKV format is a pain in the ass, why can't it just be AVI?

It feels like it plays slightly too fast for me. I have no clue how to adjust the speed.

Worse than ****. Over a gig to d/l and the audio isn't synced. -5 stars.

If you haven't got the know-how to play MKV correctly, why not broadcast your ignorance here?

For some of you the problems with the mkv files and the fact that these are HD - unless you have a new computer with dual core processors they can be pretty hard on a system and it's resources. I had a P4 3.4EE and it was OK, but still very hard on the system even with two gb of memory. My new quad core kicks all kinds of butt and I rarely discover problems with these files. It's a get use to type of thing, and I did.

This is NOT 5.1 surround.. it is stereo 2.0 only
look elsewhere for the proper version...

for all those wanting to convert to a PS3 compatible file,
check out MKV2VOB
its freeware, and it doesnt change the quality. I've actually used it to convert the 1st and 7th episode
it can convert it to either AVI or MPG (including Divx... or Xvid, cant remember)
Its super quick. Completely adware/spyware free... (i use it at work... lol)
(and, no, im not a spammer, im a trusted user on mininova and torrentz)
