I wanted to comment on Moonfleet. Having seen this movie more than four times over the years I disagree with you that it is a minor Fritz Lang. I think it was one of his best films, a noir disguised as a juvenile adventure. Cheaply as it has been made it conveys the sense of evil and corruption better than other Lang films as While The City Sleeps or The Secret Behind The Door. The doom is almost palpable and all characters are flawed with the exception of the children (who represent hope) and the wise guardian. No wonder Lang changed the story so much, he wanted to convey his view of the world. Fox is a scarred man,he has been victimized and now victimizes. He wants to mistreat John Mohune as much as he been mistreated in the past. But at the same time he feels a tenderness towards the boy, that will lead to his redemption. Eastmancolor or no Eastmancolor the film is beautifully photographed in suitably dark tones, enhancing the nightmarish atmosphere. An unjustly great film that has been neglected.
