Thanks jean321 #10 for stills. If someone could 1) verify it's all good (audio quality, not too mutilated by commercial breaks or inane chatter, like NBC version), and/or 2) repost a version with the athlete parade clipped out, like elainec22 did over at demonoid (cutting it to about 1/3 of the size), that would be greatly appreciated. 42g is a lot of bandwidth to commit to :)

12.Posted by puddnhead on Aug 10 2008 at 14:57

luyi8523 saw your post write after submitting mine. Yeah you're right, they are the same stills. jean321, if you just gave us images you got off the web somewhere, not images you actually got from this cap itself, that was VERY misleading & you should not have done that :?

13.Posted by puddnhead on Aug 10 2008 at 15:22

Correctly me if I'm wrong, but none of the commenters so far has explicitly commented on the quality of this, or for that matter even confirmed that they have downloaded this. I second prestonChuckles, "Please, PLEASE, someone post on here the quality when you get this." And be clear thta you did get THIS, and you are discussing quality of THIS. Not how your computer in THEORY will be able to handle it, but how it HAS handled it.

15.Posted by PhV on Aug 10 2008 at 18:23

No information on movie quality but pics from jeans321 are not from CCTV at all. It's from "FRANCE 2". Their logo if far different from CCTV one...

16.Posted by kyochen on Aug 10 2008 at 19:59

prestonChuckles,You should tell us which TV version the file is!

You think this is gonna come out on a Blu-ray somehow, someday? Would be nice. I quess I'd be the only one to buy the freakin' thing :) Anyways, I'm not gonna waste my time by downloading this 42GB...

20.Posted by sjo on Aug 11 2008 at 01:32

i'd gladly grabb this TVB-Jade HD rip for my parents if someone could compress it down to 10gb or less.

Stop spamming you stupid *******. I hope you contract testicular cancer, and die a slow, painful, ball-less death.

22.Posted by Hatsukisan on Aug 11 2008 at 09:59

I saw this version (because I'm french) and it is very good. There is no commercial breaks (!!!), no cuts, no chats, and the show is complete. I'm going to DL the NBC version first but I think I will DL this version too.

23.Posted by dajusha on Aug 11 2008 at 14:53

God I should re-partition my HD for this. If it really good at #24 said. I'm downloading 4.9G NBC 720p version, but I heard some guys commented it cuts some part.

24.Posted by makomni on Aug 11 2008 at 21:51

Does this version include the entering of the nations with their flag or is it just the ceremony and the lightening of the torch?

25.Posted by WuzzelNL on Aug 12 2008 at 21:48

How can i open this file?
I tried everything, only getting AUDIO in Media Player Classic.
No VIDEO.
VLC player wont play it at all.

Downloaded the H.264/AVC CODEC (had to use it according to GSPOT).
Downloaded a MPEG-2 demultiplexer.
Downloaded DScaler5.

But still only AUDIO.

What am i doing wrong?

26.Posted by yswswy on Aug 15 2008 at 03:13

it is the Hong Kong Jade version. The downside is that it includes lots of local (Hong Kong) stuff at the beginning that is not very interesting.

You can open/encode into avi (etc) using Super
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SUPER_(software)

I think I actually prefer the NBC version.

For Microsoft Windows users: To play this video, you can use either SMPlayer for Windows or MPlayer for Windows. You will still need a fast computer for smooth playback. My Intel P4 2.4GHz computer is too slow to process the video smoothly. It was necessary to drop frames, but that will result in ****y video. (SMPlayer has a preference setting to drop frames when viewing H.264 video.)

The video is about 5 hours 18 minutes long and includes the entire ceremony from beginning to end. It has performances that NBC cut out, including the end when Jackie Chan is singing on stage. The actual opening ceremony begins about 55 minutes into the video, which means the first 55 minutes are extra programming which are not part of the ceremony itself. Commercials were left in, as well. This recording is from Hong Kong TV and the commentators are speaking in Cantonese.

What codec is required it on Linux (ubuntu)?

32.Posted by vivkaileo on Aug 26 2008 at 08:13

Hi all, I am getting the following status: "Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)". Is anyone else getting this error status?

33.Posted by shankey89 on Aug 26 2008 at 18:06

I use ubuntu. No code is required. Use vlc or mplayer or totem. For totem, you need to install the gstreamer extra codecs.

35.Posted by Bigtisas on Sep 09 2008 at 05:51

I couldn't play the video with any players in XP. I have tried all...SMplayer, VLCplayer, Divx, Windows media players, quicktime. Any ideas???

36.Posted by vivkaileo on Sep 10 2008 at 19:25

Bigtisas: I am using KMPlayer, that works fine, you also need fast PC to play video smoothly
