Correction - the .nfo with this release (above) clearly implies that it's from the same NBC broadcast but in fact it is not.
This is an Australian broadcast from Channel 7.
Picture quality is ok but the bitrate (IMO) is too low at 3000kbps - someone needs to do this properly at 8GB .......
Why is this so f*kin hard to do right???!!!

"This is welcome but I'd still love to see the CBC HD or BBC HD version in full ..."
I doubt you will be able to see any CBC HD release because they have flagged all their channels "copy once" meaning that us with PCs cant copy them.
If i could have capped it i would have put it out there @ Discovery Atlas quality ( just search on this site and look at the Technical specs for the HD versions) .
If the flags change to "copy freely" by accident (which they do sometimes) maybe I can get the closing ceremony for you guys.

@hukumuzuku
You can make a full 720p or even 1080i/p copy if you have a digital TV tunner which has hardware 720p or 1080i/p encoding.
I'm also waiting for a realese without the teams parade on full HIGH DEF.

Best should be Australian version! From what I heard, this should be the best "English" commentary version, the Australian TV version.
Picture and sound quality of this media? I don't know yet!
"People's opinion" as what I have heard:
USA: NBC - ****s because commercial insertion shortcuts the magnificent show performance
Canada: CBC - Technologically inhibits/hinders HDTV ripping.
Britain: BBC - Commentator makes/expresses biased comments/view points, which somehow ruins the spectacular show.

I have to type "Sux" to substitute

I think it's same as CCTV live version...
===========================================
Are you serious? The CCTV version is the WORST I've ever seen!!

I stop downloading CCTV version.
What is the best version ??
13.Posted by Neely_rulz on Aug 12 2008 at 13:24
First what's so bad bout CCTV?
And second, i live in Australia, and loved it, I've seen snippets of the others and
is no way near the aussie broadcast standard. I haven't downloaded this yet, but its first on my list for downloading.

Also, expect alright quality, as it is a .mkv file
.mkv files have excellent compression and this about the same as a 8 GB .avi file
though .mkv files can only be played by VLC Player at this time

jul644, #17, says "do not listen to this guys .mkv is just a container file like avi it has nothing to with the codec. the codec is h.264 btw"
Yeah, people, I agree with #17! You can play .mkv with many types of media player softwares. You just need the right "Splitter". I have K-lite codec pack installed and with Haali Media Splitter activated and am using WMP to play back files that have video encoding method of H.264 which uses .mkv as container format.
However, I would like to inform you all that this type of files consume SO MUCH computing power such to cause periodic freezing during my playing back. I also tried VLC media player. VLC also consumes a lot CPU power. Therefore, my conclusion is that this type of files seem to consume so much computing power in general probably because of its highly elaborate compression method which needs a very fast CPU to decode the data message!

this is the australian version, good quality with no commercials and the full ceremony from beginning to end with few cuts.
thankfully this capture is also lacking the annoying political bull**** commentary plaguing the american and uk broadcasts, and the stupid ugly broadcaster faces dancing on the video feed like the french version.
best capture yet, thanks 100,000x!

Perfect! Thats the best opening video! The image is very good. The only problem is that it isn't 5.1, it's 2 channels only....

As far as i was aware none of the olympics, opening, events or closing was not broadcast in 5.1. Only 2 channle stereo. Many HD network simply output the audio in Dolby Digital 2.0. which i would assume is what this is as Channel 7 HD did broadcast all of the olympics on HD in DD 2.0.

Synopsis:

The most anticipated event of 2008. Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Ceremony! Enjoy
Proper Notes: ORENJi's release was cut short at 3:28.
It seems NBC decided to speed up through the teams
parade and missed some scenes and other footage.
Here is our release which goes for 4:12 and rarely
switching to any breaks.
video codec ° x264 (MKV Container)
video bitrate ° 3098 kbps
frame rate ° 25 fps
audio bitrate ° 384 kbps
audio format ° AC3
I assume this means it's still taken from the NBC source then and with a slightly lower bitrate than the Orenji release - still hopefully the ad breaks are less intrusive ...
This is welcome but I'd still love to see the CBC HD or BBC HD version in full ...
