1 and 2 play ok, 3 crashes explorer, 4 doesnt play in media player or vlc.

try GOM player It hasnt failed anything for me but make sure you have a codec pack llike ffdshow

Just got Jesse Stone 04 - Sea Change (2007) and MPClassic has no problems at all playing it via Xvid (latest CVShead) or FFDshow. I just selected the one file I wanted.
But having the Xvid decoder settings wrong can cause any divx or Xvid encoded file to crash on play, and IIRC there is also a problem in WinXP that can cause some .avi vid files to crash when viewed in Explorer I am sure that its a simple reg hack to fix it ...both having nothing to do with the video files themselves which will play fine on other setups.
Best thing is to NOT use codec packs and just the codecs you need, not to try to have them all.
