Played it on windows, subtitles didn't work. Played it on Divx and they did so thanks anyway.

Download VLC media player www.videolan.org.
It's free. Everyone uses it. It plays all those files that media player refuses to play and you can load subtitles (google how to, don't ask on here), you can even fix out of synch audio - again don't be lazy, google it!
Usually, if you want to see the subs on your dvd player (in this case it's a .srt file) then GOOOGLE IT!
