@4 yeah, i'm pretty sure you can

Note that if you have a recent processor, you could check out for the 64-bit version. Or if you have a netbook, check out for the "Netbook Remix" version.
This is the 10th release of Ubuntu. It uses the Linux 2.6.28 kernel, GNOME 2.26. A new notification system is also included. The default file system is ext3 with ext4 available at installation as an option.
Anyway, I do recommended Jaunty Jackalope -- it is *really* good stuff.

I think the windows and mac users are afraid to use this as they dont want to see a better OS. And to add to their woes its free.

I have been running 8.04 since it came out, and I have to see how this runs. I have also been running a beta of win7, but I feel like this will be a better option for anyone who has been scwood by vista in the past.

I have an older(compaq presario 5008 us)800-MHz Celeron, 254MB RAM, 40 GB hard drive and a 128mb pci video card, Would this OS be better than any windows OS. For this system runs Sloooooow.......would it be less of a system resource hog? I need a very lite OS to just browse inernet and look at online video's.

Well, this download didn't work for me... as soon as I tried to install it, it gave error "invalid compression format (err=1)". I know it's a pretty common one, and I solved simply downloading the new iso from Ubuntu homepage - download even FASTER that this torrent
Anyway, thanx to the uploader.. as I said, it didn't work for me, but I guess it worked for a lot of people outta there

this is the one if you do not have AMD64... i was going to use win7 'til i got ubuntu to work on my laptop with a bcm4318 wifi... i needed to use the 128bit open wep but now it rocks... a little less intuitive than pclinuxos 2009 but at least my amd64 laptop can go wifi...
all in all this is definately WAY better than being a slave to microsux winblows... even at win 7

This OS is a must if you want to experience a new Open Source evolution. If you have any trouble shooting with the OS you can contact me I have used it from the day of its launch. As being an Open Source its free and you can update it with various features you want.
It supports almost all hardwares.

Does anyone know if I could install this using USB flash drive? My dvd drive is broken, so I would like to transfer this iso. to flash drive and then run it from it? Possible?
27.Posted by cookiemonster09 on Oct 03 2009 at 08:02
Yeah... I consulted google about this one, found a lot of documentation about it, will be reading a lot
Seems kinda complicated...

Awesome OS!

Thanks, great os. In my opinion it is the most user friendly when it come to first making that switch from windows. They love to use marketing schemes to scare you but linux is amazing. =)
Also, if anyone is having problems installing because they don't have a cd burner. There is a great program called unetbootin http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
which makes the process a breeze for setting this os up ona flash drive.
If you need any help you can contact me on yahoo messanger
g_unit843 and i would love to help. =) One side note though, remeber google is your friend so please look at the guide to using unetbootin before you contact me. http://www.pcmech.com/article/how-to-install-ubuntu-linux-with-no-optical-drive/
Also, if you have never tried vista (I hate vista, trust me) but i found a wonderful version of vista. It is a modded version of windows vista ultimate by a man name Benjamen. It don't even feel like your using vista. It's way more faster, and none of those ****ty errors.http://www.h33t.com/details.php?id=03e1b7a81e5883b5e7a21bbca7682177ee8ae1f2
Sorry for the post being so long....

PC (Intel x86) desktop CD
For almost all PCs. This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors and almost all computers that run Microsoft Windows, as well as newer Apple Macintosh systems based on Intel processors. Choose this if you are at all unsure.
