Hey Mickey, I share your sentiments. Just one question - how come you need to convert back to AVI? How do you play the videos?

Me, I play them via Windows Media Player 11 acting as a media server and stream it over the local network to an Xbox 360. Picture looks great, too.

The conversion to avi is probably due to the dvd player not recognizing the mp4 file extension. I had burned some of the good quality avi episodes along with Cladia's eps, only the avi files showed up on the menu screen on the TV. Even changing the file extension didn't fool the player.

Are there any dvd players that can play the mp4 extension without needing conversion.

Dear hotgoat, haven't found any dvd player that meets the mp4 file format :?, but how about a multimedia hard drive? Some of them do play mp4 video files with the H.264 video codec.
