If it was the Worlds most advanced OS, it would run on any machine?
4.Posted by NakedFaerie on Jun 10 2009 at 16:22
I agree. Windows is the most advanced OS. It DOES run on every machine. It runs on PC's and MACs so how is MacOSX better than Windows?
Actually Linux is actually the most advanced as that DOES run on every machine but Windows is still better than MacOSX.
This ONLY runs on a MAC so how is it better than Windows or Linux?
Thats just a stupid comment from a clone of Steve Jobs.
Apple want clones, Microsoft want customers.

NakedFaerie, it's time for your pills.
And take twice the dose.

Please stop talking in ignorance...
Mac OSX works on many PC systems, and is based on Linux..
Add to this it has a fraction of the virus attacks of Windows
and Crashes even less, had OSX 10.4.6 running on my intel PC
box for 2 years now, not a single virus and I could count the system
crashes on one hand.... so do shut up if you have nothing sensible to say...
8.Posted by creedx06 on Jun 10 2009 at 16:44
Apple haters are purely ignorant. You try supporting the BS that MS has continued to code over the years, code still based on legacy technologies that are irrelevant in modern times. I support both both platforms and it is night and day on easy use, setup, and follow-up.
No crashes, No spyware, No Malware, No viruses, No REGISTRY, NO HASSLES. Microsoft is only out for Microsoft. They could care less about their customer base as long as you continues giving them the dollars to rehash the same BS 20 years running over and over again.
Microsoft would be doing every one a favor if they would buy a distribution of Linux and try to release it with a nice GUI and actual features. Something they seriously won't consider out of their own arrogance.

But this really is MacOS X 10.6 or is a fake ??????
10.Posted by rohitmongia on Jun 10 2009 at 17:17
Snow Leopard was supposed to be lauched in Sep 2009, is this the original??

11.Posted by cal411 on Jun 10 2009 at 18:00
To NakedFaerie: maybe you heard this before?? It's better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you're stupid, than to open it and erase all doubt.
To anyone else: I'm going to dl and try it. It does say WWDC Beta Build, so it's not retail. Anyone who has tried installing, any comments about THAT would really be useful. Even you, NakedFaerie, if you're up to the task...
12.Posted by ukfallenangel on Jun 10 2009 at 18:56
Is this the Developer Preview version handed out at this weeks WWDC?
13.Posted by mikee55 on Jun 10 2009 at 20:35
Hello again.
I'm not into wars and arguments over Operating Systems. I did all that with Betamax and VHS, Sinclair and Commodore. All are good Technologies, right? I've tried different flavours of Linux too. Had problems with Internet Connection Sharing using 2 NIC's in my machine. I share on one and connect to the WWW with the other. Two tick boxes in XP and Internet Connection Sharing is enabled. In Linux, your supposed to use a Firewall like Firestarter. Which never works. Oh and MAC OSX for Intel/AMD wouldn't work on my machine, an AMD 64bit machine. Which XP 64 always gives me problems too.
Good luck with Snow Leopard, shame I can't give it a try.
Regards.

ahhh... *sigh* ye olde operating system wars wage on...
osx all the way...
now for some fun:
Windows (win'-doze) 3.0/3.1/95/98/2000/ME/XP/Vista/7 (n.): 32-bit extensions to a 16-bit graphical shell for an 8-bit operating system originally coded for a 4-bit microprocessor by a 2-bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.
Microsoft's obviously short-sighted tagline:
"Windows. Life without walls."
Therefore:
"If one does not need walls, one does not need windows."

Any of you guys with a PowerPC mac can forget about using this. Snow Leopard is Intel only.
20.Posted by elisiowz on Jun 11 2009 at 03:25
LOL
windows only runs on every computer, including a macbook, 'cause apple made it so, otherwise if there was no BOOTCAMP my guess is that windows wouldn't work on Mac xD
therefore mac is so amazing that i doesn't just manage 1 OS but 2 . =O
P.S. a MacBook with windows runs out of battery juice so F* fast !!
What about now , u didn't see that comin' , what's d best
OS after all ?? xD

Mac OSX is based on FreeBSD, a "Unix like" operating system, kind of like Linux, which makes it a Linux cousin.

You can use OSX on any machine...if you crack it.

23.Posted by MrAtheist on Jun 11 2009 at 04:46
lol now why would people pay overprice for those what i call "newbie friendly" macs if it's based on an operating system that is basically "FREE". And keep in mind that apple would be out of business if it were not for the ipods. All in all, apple is just trying to rip U off with those ridiculously overpriced macs + accessories + warranties + ...
24.Posted by MrAtheist on Jun 11 2009 at 04:48
The above is just my two cents. But if you got ***** to burn then please ignore it.
27.Posted by ninline on Jun 11 2009 at 05:19
I don't understand why the win lamers are even bothering to come here to comment. Why would they even bother looking at a mac torrent? I don't waste my time with windoze torrents. If people pay more to use a mac then obviously they value it more. It shouldn't concern someone who likes to use windoze. Unless it's jealousy? Maybe they wish they could afford a Mac instead of having to constantly reboot and reformat their Dell? I dunno.
28.Posted by shael on Jun 11 2009 at 07:20
Nah, OS X is ok for people that aren't very good with computers..
windows 7 is about 1000x better and faster though.. I actually tried to switch to apple and just browsing through files and organizing icons makes it a joke for a professional user.. i'm now running windows 7 x64 on my macbook pro and it runs amazing.. I haven't dared to use OS X once since i got windows 7 and will never, ever, ever look back.
Keep in mind there are alot of people like me out there cause apple hardware is pretty darn attractive compared to any PC offerings.. (powerful PC laptops are ugly as sin, sorry)
Anyways my point is that snow leopard will blow just as much if you use your computer professionally but it comes with new bootcamp drivers to run windows 7 even better ! So this torrent is important - and can someone actually respond as to whether it's real ???
29.Posted by Ed84 on Jun 11 2009 at 07:45
can i install on my leopard? or is there any useful guide ? and one last quesion, somebody said its x64, is it compatible with my 24inch Intel-based iMAC ?
cheers////
30.Posted by shael on Jun 11 2009 at 08:51
Yea it's compatible with everything that's not powerPC..
no word yet on whether it's real yet though everyone knows many copies were handed out at WWDC so there are def real versions floating around.
No idea what will happen to this when the full version is out in september
31.Posted by pinti343 on Jun 11 2009 at 09:21
Yeah, it's legit and it works. The installer doesn't give an option for "Archive and install," there's just an install button. Is there any way to do an Archive and Install without formatting your drive/partition? On my 10.5.7 partition, it gave an install size of around 4 GB and on my empty partition, it installed around 7.5 GB.
32.Posted by JonesNguyen on Jun 11 2009 at 10:53

is it possible to run this on a non mac? how?
37.Posted by tdavie on Jun 12 2009 at 07:06
For what it's worth, I installed it on an external 160 gb drive for my UMBP 17. It is fast, freakish;y so, but there were *none* of the enhancements (dock/epose integration, put back command, etc) that we were told about at WWDC. Quicktime X was there, still limited codec support without Perian, and no screen recording.
Shrug. I'll keep downloading them.

40.Posted by BigSpender on Jun 12 2009 at 18:08
This is the real deal.
However this is not the full release and I advise you not to run as the main OS, and instead just have a play booting from an external or partition.
Dock Exposé = Not working
QuickTime X = Works with screen recording and other new features, but has the old icon still
Will not allow installation of FCS at the moment!
I find it to be a lot faster. Shutdown time was amazing, glance away and it's done. The new airport signal strength is cool, as well as preview.
Opening PS CS4 is like 3 x faster now too! Very nice
A few developer apps have been updated so far to work, but many still won't boot.
Certainly not to be run on everyday use just yet!!
41.Posted by BigSpender on Jun 12 2009 at 18:13
Just to clarify what I meant...
This version "10A380" is the latest build, and the one handed out at the WWDC.
It is far from the retail version that will be released in September.
In my opinion, unless you are a developer there is little point to running this at the moment.
You won't be able to install over the current OS, and so loose all of your data.
When the final release is out, you will have to install it again, and not have the option to just run a system update.
I hope this helps, I think everyone MAC is excited about this release now as all of the previous OS X ones!
42.Posted by Wastedlauren on Jun 12 2009 at 23:05
Thanks for the advice BigSpender. As much as I want to use the new OS, I think I'll wait and just stick to normal Leopard for the moment. Again, thanks.
43.Posted by udhay on Jun 14 2009 at 09:54
Think version should be cracked to run in PC so every body can enjoy them.Nice version of Mac os x.
44.Posted by applescript on Jun 14 2009 at 12:20
hmmm seeing you guys fight, i just thought how can you guys claim a OS is the greatest by simply seeing how many platforms it runs on? isnt that a little ridiculous?
shouldn't great be defined by how much impact the OS has in the history of computing? hmm just some food for thoughts..

Well, it works fine for me, did an image of my HD and installed in another drive. Everything works fine, just perfect... they release a seed update so now my version is build 10A394.
Programs so far that doesn't work even after so many hours of trying...
aMSN (crash every run)
ClamXav
Coconut Battery
Programs that work just fine...
Little Snitch (had to reinstall but works fine)
Office 2008
Adobe Family CS4
iLife 09'
iWork 09'
Firefox 3
uTorrent
Limewire (only the latest relese) others doesnt work...
AppZapper
FileZilla
Divx
Buddi
****Box
DiskAid
Peggle
PokerStar.net
Fusion
VLC
Yahoo!
and my HUAWEI Mobile driver (had a problem with the driver) nothing that and update to the OS wouldn't fix it...
Snow Leo is so good that im using for about a week as my primary sys and nothing bad has happed... everything works smooth and faster than 10.5.7 so if you plan to upgrade i recommend... even my wireless signal now is better than ever...
53.Posted by PBSD on Jul 09 2009 at 17:40
Haha, debates over operating systems started on a Mac OS download thread... you would be better off not say anything at all.
54.Posted by teezy09 on Jul 09 2009 at 20:12
For those of you who have the mindset that this file is a fake, or that its real, its NOT FAKE, and IT IS REAL. ITS A BETA. If you don't know what a Beta is, then you need to brush up on your skills.
I'm not so sure about running this on a PC (dual-booting).
55.Posted by Wetpixels on Jul 10 2009 at 06:12
You guys can't say an os is the most advanced just because it runs on any platform. Apple has always had the most advanced OS. Face it, get over it, wake up! Windows is the most bug ridden, vulnerable, annoying to use OS of all time. We all know that, don't we. And I'm no Apple fan boy. I use both OS's, and it's absolutely clear that Apple's is easier to use, less annoying, and just a much better experience all around.
56.Posted by dfran on Jul 10 2009 at 14:06
For all the people saying Windows is the most advanced OS. You must be in denial, if you serious about making good technology then you SHOULD make the hardware, Operating System and the applications. How many companies do that? I think we all know.
57.Posted by dfran on Jul 10 2009 at 14:09
Why are apple haters even looking at this torrent? I think it says something about them. Looking at what you could have had? (with envy)

64.Posted by BigSpender on Jul 19 2009 at 18:53
@ sesepe23...
Seriously if you can't install this, then it isn't for you.
Just wait for a full working release and leave BETAs well alone for now.
The potential to stop your day-to-day running of your Mac by installing this isn't worth the benefits. The experienced Mac developer will have fun with this, but it's not really for the eager beaver who wants to have a new OS. It shouldn't be too much longer until we will see pre-releases of Snow Leopard.

Interesting, I didn't know that :
Apple gets 91% of the market for +1000$ computer (I dont know if it's in US only)..
Let's think about it..
I am in a hurry to get 10.6, and the next builds directly from the ''software update'' is sth so good ;-)
I mainly want to know how much faster it is.. I knew that it is a big CLEANING they made on 10.6, so, let's try this
71.Posted by halfords45 on Jul 26 2009 at 01:17
come on people $29 upgrade when it comes out is it really worth getting a copy that may be laced with nasties? not like the $100 plus for bindows 7 or should i say vista with a few less bugs

Not to offense anyone but I actually think that Mac and Mic will lose to linux on OS because linux you cant get virus and what you do on xp I am able to do it too on linux and what you are able to do on Mac I am too. But one reason why I am here is because I love the name Mac os and thats why im giving this a shot I have tried XP already it is nice too but I like linux more and now its macs turn but for a demo i have with school mac computers i dont really like it but going to try it anyways and I hate apple products because they are expensive for the brand name only please no rude comments to me if you want to say something just say it in a way where it wont offense me too thank you

Part 1: Some information to clear away some mythology cobwebs:
1) Linux has security vulnerability problems like any OS. There is no reason a Trojan could not be installed, infecting the machine and pwning it. As with Mac, however, lazy crackers would rather do drive-by infections. Good luck with that on any Linux or Mac OS X machine.
2) Linux is NOT UNIX. It is the OS that is 'UNIX-like'. Mac OS X is certified UNIX, period. Look it up kids. Mac OS X uses a different open source kernel from other forms of UNIX called Xnu. It used to be called the Darwin Kernel when it used the original Mach kernel v3.x. Now it is a hybrid kernel of Mach and the 4.3 BSD kernel. Wikipedia.org is your pal. Linux uses its own open source 'Linux kernel'.
76.Posted by zunipus on Jul 29 2009 at 08:11
Part 2: Some information to clear away mythology cobwebs:
3) Mac OS X is designed specifically for Apple designed hardware, where Apple specifically marry the operating system with the hardware. This allows the Mac to avoid the myriad of conflict problems not-enjoyed on Windows and Linux PC boxes. Thus the phrase "It just works." Anyone who is not well versed in using Mac OS X has no business bashing it.
4) As is typical throughout the history of the Mac, insecure Windows (and other) operating system users go out of their way to troll in Mac areas, such as this thread about Snow Leopard, in order to make Mac users miserable. Not surprisingly, Mac users do NOT do the same thing to Windows and Linux users at THEIR specific areas. IOW, Mac users don't troll. When Mac users want to flame Microsoft, etc., they keep it within their own sites on the net. Prove me wrong. Don't have an aneurism trying.

linux and mac osx are paternal twins same core but leaf out differntly
amiga is true unix true 64bit true realtime multitasking-amiga is best period
reason why mac users dont troll much is that they dont have anything to brag about period

You can mount the image onto a external hard drive,
also doesnt matter if you already got stuff on there long as you got 8/9GB free on it,
use disk ultility to resize and then restore the image onto it...
another thing if you have the 10a380 build then you can use software update..

Hey guys I'm very new to Mac, trying to install this on a macbook 1.83ghz intel core duo with 256mb... I know it is not enough but before I go off and buy 2 sticks of 1go I want to know if this will install on my mac correctly. I burnt this version with nero, I renamed the file from .dmg to .iso like I was told to, when I put the dvd in my drive, it says that the dvd is empty, it says there is absolutely nothing on the dvd. Is this normal? Do I need to hold tab when the system is booting?
88.Posted by holografix on Sep 05 2009 at 11:00
#87 polorico I don't think it will work for you my friend. Check to see if you have the Core 2 duo and not just that Core Duo processor as Snow Leopard requires a 64bit processor and if I'm not wrong the first version of Core Duo was NOT 64bit.
Also you would DEFINITELY need 1-2gb of ram. Can't believe u ran anything with 256mb!
Been using this for 3 days now on a macbook white core 2 duo 2gb ram 120gb hd intel 950gma and I have NO ISSUES AT ALL TO REPORT. No overheating or nothing, indexing took about 4 minutes to complete, mind u I did a clean install.
Total time for installation including reformating my hd was of 43 minutes.
Enjoy.
ps: I'm off to buy a copy of SL today here in Australia, it's def worth the AU$39.

Is this the real deal? Haven't really been able to discern that from the comments. Either way, I downloaded it and am now seeding. Not sure whether I want to install yet, since I don't know if it's legit. Also, I am running on Mac OS X 10.4.11, which is Tiger. Is it possible for me to upgrade to Snow Leopard w/o first going to Leopard? Also, will I lose my apps? I have older versions of Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, Indesign, etc... Are these compatible? Can I simply archive all of these apps and then they will be once installed on Snow Leopard? One more, some people say to not use this as main OS, should I? Thanks in advance for any and all help.
