4.Posted by cal411 on Aug 29 2009 at 13:11

#1 and #2... why don't you try it and report?

5.Posted by DS0056 on Aug 29 2009 at 13:11

OK, can people please make sure they re-seed at least 1 copy before they excitedly shut their computers down to install Leopard. I can understand the excitement though.

Alternatively, the lack of seeds may mean that the file is a piece of ****. Hmmmmm.

6.Posted by kenns on Aug 29 2009 at 13:54

does anyone know can i burn i on two discs, or it must be on one double laye disc?

7.Posted by Nervana on Aug 29 2009 at 14:05

its double layer

8.Posted by LFC_SL on Aug 29 2009 at 14:51

Why are you guys wasting DL-DVD,
you can burn(mount) the image onto a external Hard drive,
roughly need 8/9GB,

its quick and easy,
use disk ultility,
click on restore,
point to the snow leopard image,
then in the 2nd box point to which external drive you want to mount onto,
and click erase and restore,
once done shut down your mac,

hold 'ALT'
at the boot option click on snow leopard your external hard drive,
and install...

9.Posted by DS0056 on Aug 29 2009 at 16:07

OK. Can someone please re-seed. Thanks.

13.Posted by Foodie_Monster on Aug 29 2009 at 19:41

Can ANYONE confirm the build of this release? I think most of us are running 10.6 Build 10A432, and if it is indeed the same build, it'd be nice to not waste our bandwidth.

14.Posted by JoeeG on Aug 29 2009 at 20:05

does this require serial/activation

15.Posted by Vision7 on Aug 29 2009 at 21:53

Are you serious? This program is only $30 and it's worth every penny. Go out and support a proper product, guys, seriously...

16.Posted by Syzygywy on Aug 30 2009 at 00:17

You do not need a serial. So far none of the OS X releases demanded a serial.

17.Posted by MrblackkcalbrM on Aug 30 2009 at 00:42

Awesome, thank you so much! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

18.Posted by posadafer on Aug 30 2009 at 01:12

21.Posted by MrblackkcalbrM on Aug 30 2009 at 06:16

There's a copy on mininova with 500 seeders..but it's a smaller size. So is it the retail or is this? I'd rather download the one with 500 seeders but I don't understand why it's smaller.

22.Posted by MrblackkcalbrM on Aug 30 2009 at 06:56

Could someone post the version and build number from the about this mac section it would be greatly appreciated.

25.Posted by vishal766 on Aug 30 2009 at 09:26

can we install it if we have windows pc not a mac hardware sold by apple

26.Posted by d4RKrITU4L on Aug 30 2009 at 09:52

First of all, thanks to the uploader, as some people really need this...

To a lot of others... especially those on our still expensive Macs... you should be ashamed for not being able to spend $30 on a fantastic piece of software, at a REALLY attractive price...

Apple does their best to make this very cheap, especially for those with really recent Macs, who get it for free... remember this software normally retails at $130!!! (which is still cheap compared to that crappy **** from Microsoft...)

Have we come this far that we really expect that EVERYTHING will be free???

(I download a lot of stuff too, but all the bums who can't spend $30 on an operating system they use day in and out... just **** off and get a PC please???)

now for flaming me... @d4RKrITU4L on Twitter...

27.Posted by shmack on Aug 30 2009 at 09:52

#27 - you'll need this version to install snow leopard on a generic PC: http://www.mininova.org/tor/2889203

28.Posted by rudidas on Aug 30 2009 at 10:00

call41: "#1 and #2... why don't you try it and report?"

31.Posted by jnk01 on Aug 30 2009 at 10:56

could someone confirm that it's an untouched version of 10.6?

32.Posted by babynoob on Aug 30 2009 at 11:25

Hey LFC_SL,

Not sure how to mount the image to an external hard drive. Could you please explain more. Also if I have files on my external HDD will I need to remove them to prevent them from being erased. Just looking for some clarification on how exactly to do it. I am currently running Mac OSX 10.5.8

Thnx

33.Posted by Naxit on Aug 30 2009 at 11:38

Thanks for the great upload!

Guys i need an info, can someone tell me the exact steps to do to put the .dmg file onto a DVD-DL?

Thanks!!

34.Posted by ElMJr33 on Aug 30 2009 at 12:44

I heard this is how your suppose to mount a large file like snow leopard without using a double layer disc. I haven't tried it myself... yet, cause im still waiting for it to finish, but for those who have it already, i hope this helps! PLEASE SEED!!! :)

* On your external USB or Firewire HDD, create a 10GB Mac OS X Extended partition, format this partition and leave it blank. You will need this later on.

* Mount the .DMG file
* Using Disk Utility, Select the RESTORE Tab
* Right Click on the "Mac OS X Install DVD" and select it as the SOURCE
* Right Click on your USB/Firewire 10GB Partition and select it as DESTINAION
* Check off "Erase Destination"
* Click Restore
* Wait for Restore to complete
* Once restore is complete, you will notice that your 10GB Partition name is called "Mac OS X Install DVD"
* Unmount the Disk Image
* LEAVE THE USB/FIREWIRE DRIVE CONNECTED
* Restart your Mac and hold the Option Key to get the startup disk menu
* Select the External HDD, Labelled "Mac OS X Install DVD"
* Booting from the External HDD works and it's fast!! Anytime you want to install Snow Leopard on any Intel Mac Computer, all you need to do is bring your External Drive, connect it, reboot and install.

Yes u can. It is a full installation DVD

In my case I have a leopard, but first I erased the disk

37.Posted by pteraser on Aug 30 2009 at 16:29

Tiago, esta é mesmo a versao final ou é um build?

38.Posted by avalanche333 on Aug 30 2009 at 16:53

Can I do an upgrade from 10.5.8 instead of a fresh install so I do not lose all my apps and documents?

39.Posted by kenns on Aug 30 2009 at 16:59

#41, sure you can, this OS X, not Windows!

40.Posted by da_housejunky on Aug 30 2009 at 17:04

@41: of course u can.
choose upgrade when install starts.

@ PC users: this wont work on PCs.
find out more with project x86, if u want to install mac OS.

26.: what model are you on? i have a fully capable macbook pro 3,1 (with 64bit efi and intelcore 2 duo 2,4 ghz) running the GM version now and can't get the 64bit kernel extensions running...
46.: can look up firewall in System Profiler? I have stealth mode on in my system preferences.. i can't find the firewall log button...
and in the System Profiler it says

Mode: Limit incoming connections to specific services and applications
Applications:

Firewall Logging: No
Stealth Mode: No

thx =)

but actually right now.. i'm even getting some speed.. hurray?

what ever =)

47.Posted by rowbearto35 on Aug 30 2009 at 21:51

Once the DMG file is download to the internal hard drive, must I burn it to a DL-DVD first before installation, or can I just install from the DMG file on my hard drive? I use TOAST for burning DVDs. Do I just drag the DMG file to Toast menu as a "data file." Many thanks for suggestions/help.

48.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 30 2009 at 22:26

@50. you should use Disk Utility to burn OS Disks (because it takes care of permissions - which are really important under UNIX)
You can also do a Hard Disk install..

1. make a partition on your hard drive (big enough to fit the Image)
2. click on the partition when ready
3. click on restore
4. as source choose your image
as destination choose your small partition
5. then check delete destination
and start

when ready you can reboot holding down the opt/alt key
choose your mac os install disk
have fun

47: Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4Ghz

50.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 30 2009 at 23:39

@51.: yeah should work fine with that model... i already googled around that
issue
i have a macbook pro 3,1 and it won't boot with 64bit kernel extensions enabled
what ever i do

i tried also a "lipo -remove i386" in terminal (what seems to be the hack to that issue)
(which simply removes the i368 architecture from the kernel) but hehehe it completely
****** my system... praise time machine I say ;)

my model is (even theoretically compatible) excluded and it has a lot to do with driver
kexts that simply aren't in 64 bit for this model... :/ it somehow ****es me off.. but
the truth is you don't need the 64bit extensions since they only are noticeable on big
machines with a hell load of RAM. it helps addressing those RAMS and you'll notice this
mainly on mac pros or on servers with more than 8GB of RAM..

so to those who want 64 bit kernel extensions enabled.. nice if you can.. no worry if not
because apps will still run as 64 bit if they are... and you won't notice a difference unless
you're planning to install a hell amount of RAM...

Has anyone tested this with CS4 yet? I just have a feeling you might need to update CS4 for it to run properly.

54.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 00:03

@53 you must have a magic torrent program if you can see the
"offline seeders" ;)

they're on dude.. you just aren't connected.. that is because there
are like 4700 leachers.. and everybody gets a peace of the cake..

but.... seriously even if you install right away guys
put the .dmg in the damn what ever download folder again... and
start seeding after install... would you?
this is seriously lame!

55.Posted by seneroo on Aug 31 2009 at 00:04

guys what is going on there are 5000 peers waitin, please seed

56.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 00:06

@55 dunno about CS4
but Logic 8 crashed on the Golden Master like h-e-l-l
I updated to Logic 9 which runs really nice now...

i am obviously bored while waiting the last 2 hours of download hehe
otherwise i wouldn't post that much here... : /

57.Posted by seneroo on Aug 31 2009 at 00:08

@56 seeds 5(531) what does it mean ..... as i know its mean 517 seeds just downloaded and fresh installed the os and they are off

58.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 00:17

@59. it means that there are 531 seeders but you are connected to 5 of them
you can change settings (depends on your torrent client) then you can
connect to more clients.. but it won't help a lot since there are like 5000 leachers
who all wan't to get connected to the seeders...

59.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 00:21

live is very hard some times and i am thinking i should have spent those 30 bugs on friday =)
but today is sunday so i am patiently waiting... and maybe if apple solves the temperature issues
with SL on the mobile models i am willing to think about buying again...

60.Posted by kolumbie on Aug 31 2009 at 00:22

@58 cheers dude. Could really do with knowing before I waste my time downloading this.

This is what adobe is saying....

Its still not all that clear whether you need to update CS4 for it to work properly. If anyone has managed to run CS4 without updating it then pls post. ta :)

61.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 00:33

@62.
bugger dude :/
i guess there are certain issues... since use of architecture really has changed in SL

62.Posted by seneroo on Aug 31 2009 at 01:14

do any one know wht this os x is 7.15 GB

i have downloaded ANOTHER 10A432 it was 6 GB

67.Posted by drcrazykid on Aug 31 2009 at 05:51

are you guys sure there isnt a hidden trojan or virus on this like iwork '09 and CS4 was in the past, cuz that would **** for all you to dl this the day it came out, and not wait to see if its clean.... just saying....

68.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 08:57

@67. this is an edited image. i downloaded it earlier it is not the retail it is an edited GM...
it has a backdoor in it... (google for it if you dunno what that is) and the photo mr
cracking85 or what ever his nick is, is showing is a photoshopped one.. you should
be able to see it... so ******* that download on piratebay =)

69.Posted by kenns on Aug 31 2009 at 09:04

this is not retail version?

70.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 09:05

@69. I am not sure... but well.. =) i will when i downloaded it... =)
file size really seems odd... but all the other retail versions out there
i've found are definitely no retail versions.. they are the GM.. what
shouldn't make a big difference since it's GM and not beta.. I am running
the GM now (having issues with temperature) but others have the same
issues with the retail (what is really really odd)
so yeah... i guess snow leopard final will be 10.6.9 or something like that =)
then it's gonna be expensive like windows but my book won't suddenly
freeze anymore..

71.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 09:06

@71. dude it is even worth... =) it is edited to open up your moms ass!
google for backdoor if you wanna know what i mean...

72.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 09:09

@73 worse not worth .. just woke up... you know..
and download still isn't ready : / f...

73.Posted by kenns on Aug 31 2009 at 09:13

anyone who already run this retail version, is it real retail snow leopard 10.6 or GM or whatever beta ???

pls guys give feedback to the comunity and SEEEEED!

74.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 09:23

@75. i think you can be quite sure that it is not GM because of the file size.. GM is 6,13GB or something.. so.. i have to go to work i hope it'll be ready this afternoon (i have to take my book with me) download speed really ****s... 4% left another 4h :/
this download comes from demonoid... so i should think that is a good source
anyway once i am ready i'll run it on a mac mini to see what's the deal.. and yeah.. since there have been some ppl already downloading and installing (i guess) and nobody complains it could be the retail? =)

75.Posted by kenns on Aug 31 2009 at 09:52

thnx kaosdroid.

and people pls SEEEED!!!

78.Posted by ElMJr33 on Aug 31 2009 at 12:22

Sh??T im still not done with this... it's been 2 days, im here like kaosdroid.... just patiently waiting... reading all the comments every 30 min. No negative ones though! this MUST be the real version... Try to seed people, so we can all have this... Thanks!

79.Posted by kenns on Aug 31 2009 at 12:33

agree with #80

leave your computers turned on ...

80.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 13:12

for all your trojan troubles

go --->

i use the same antivirus under linux... it's open source.. not really the best though
but! it detects the os x trojan(s-?).. not backdoors.. as those are a bit more complicated..
download the 2.0.1 beta for compatibility with SL
older versions won't launch in SL

81.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 13:14

@82. ah no links i guess... hehe
anyway "clamxav" is the antivirus
google for it... =)

82.Posted by kenns on Aug 31 2009 at 13:23

is this OS X Package contains trojans?

hmmm ....

83.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 13:27

@84. dude.. i didn't say that.. my download isn't even ready yet...
but with this antivirus you can check for yourself..

84.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 13:29

what is odd is the file size though... i dunno
but as far as i know the retail dvd should have the same checksum as the
Golden Master image. but since this file here is 1,02GB bigger than the GM
it won't be the same checksum.. so anyway I am only a minute away from
finishing this download (finally pff) when i am done i tell you

85.Posted by kenns on Aug 31 2009 at 13:42

we waiting on you kaosdroid

:)

86.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 13:48

so anyway couldn't find a trojan with clamxav antivirus
it's weird that the image is that big.. because mounted it
seems the same as the GM... same file size..
i think it's cool...
i'm gonna install it on a mac mini and see if there are
differences to the GM (which i suspect not to be the case)

on GM: i wonder still about my firewall.. where in system preferences
stealth mode is on, while in the system profiler it says
stealth mode is off.. (could be a bug or anything evil - what
reminds me of spongebob squarepants now and therefor
i should go and have a bit more sleep =)
also where the hell do i switch on firewall logging in SL???
damn...

87.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 14:04

so just that you know sukkerz: seeding now!!

88.Posted by kenns on Aug 31 2009 at 14:15

seed, seed seed ....

89.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 15:45

another thing:
system completely frozen? =)
29 bugs worth it? anyway... hehehe
there is a thread about this issue on Snow Leopard.. you may wanna go and check it out
if you experienced the scary frozen screen.. YOU ARE NOT ALONE hahaha

discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2132600&start=0&tstart=0

90.Posted by kenns on Aug 31 2009 at 15:52

hmm, I read on the forums that people who have installed the original retail OS X did not show any serious problem, eg icing screen or crash

Does this mean that this torrent is not a real OS X? I mean the retail version ...

91.Posted by nono31 on Aug 31 2009 at 15:56

I installed this version yesterday night. Upgraded my leopard fine. no problems so far... Seeding since finished dl... uped 2.7Gb already.

How will we know for sure that this is the retail final?

I saw lots of thing about starting with 6 and 4 keys pressed to start in 64bits mode... I did not do this and my activity monitor shows the processes that are 64bits or not.. does it mean that it started in 64bits mode?

92.Posted by seneroo on Aug 31 2009 at 16:08

do any one can confirm that this is real retail dvd

93.Posted by spokecrasher on Aug 31 2009 at 16:14

@27 --> I'm pretty sure for the most here it's not about the ***** everyone downloading this had obviously the ***** to buy a Mac so it's certainly not to much to pay 29US$ for an amazing operating system.......
BUT IT'S SIMPLE NOWHERE AVAILABLE FOR ME!!!!! HERE IN GREECE WE'RE FACING DELIVERY TIMES OF 8 - 10 WEEKS. The apple web shop isn't delivering to foreign countries (even with an US address) and the Greek local distributor is a joke. I was running around all Athens and any kind of shop but it's not available. Nowhere. Simple as that. Before you're going to call somebody a bum you should think twice. really how can we know which version of OS X it is?

where you can find a label similar to this "10A402a" and is it the label for the retail DVD version?

please help with this. I am a little confused about it ...

95.Posted by seneroo on Aug 31 2009 at 16:40

:( :) no bady know is it retail or gm :) :(

96.Posted by seneroo on Aug 31 2009 at 16:51

dear uploader plese could you post a comment that is it uploaded from the real retail dvd

97.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 17:42

@92.: i think they aren't talking about the GM version which obviously is the one version that
goes retail.. they are talking about the retail version of SL and cooling issues of the CPU on
mobile models

@93.: dude.. it doesn't matter if you run the 64bit kernel extensions or not.. your machine will run 64bit apps just fine without any troubles! i explained it in another comment... you need the 64bit kernel extensions to address a big amount of RAM if you aren't running a machine with, lets say 16GB of RAM you wouldn't notice any difference (apart from a slightly faster app start as some benchmark tests show.. but yeah.. i mean who of you guys is really using his mac to the limit?? i obviously don't and i am using logic with a lot of tracks and reason besides and i dunno how much plugins...

@96.: i am running this now and... i could have left the GM version as well on that machine..
there is no f...ing difference guys =) seriously i just downloaded for curiosity... GM is
the one version that goes retail... so it doesn't make any difference if you're running GM
or retail coz it's the same.. at least it should be... so hmm...
system version number (you'll find it in your system profiler under software) is 10A432
like the GM is as well...

@98.: dude the title does say retail or doesn't it?
what do you think the uploader meant with this?

so thx for uploading this...
i am still experiencing confusing outputs in the system profiler regarding to my firewall settings .. that was the only reason why i wanted to see retail...

@99 About ram. I have a early 2007 Macbook (2.0 Core 2 Duo, GMA950) that was said not to support more than 2GB of ram, does Snow leopard change something about this? Can I put more than 2GB of RAM now?

thanks

100.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 18:05

@101. YES YOU CAN =) theoretically hehehe
so if your slot's let you, you can use now at least 4GB of ram..

101.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 18:15

@101 actually i think it's weird because you should already under leopard be able to use more than 2GB of RAM.. so if it isn't because of your MB slots for the RAMs now you should be able for sure!

102.Posted by ElMJr33 on Aug 31 2009 at 18:31

FIIIIINNNAAAALLLLYYYYY.... 2 days later! Just installed it, seem to be working fine, nothing froze as of yet, but i haven't check it thoroughly. Once i have, i'll report back. NOW SEEDING!!! :) :) :)

103.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 18:44

@104.: yeah.. try running iTunes and Vuze at a time =) for like an hour you should freeze
hehehe... at least it happened to me on the GM
i installed this here and for now everything seems fine... gonna do the iTunes Safari with some flash movie and vuze at a time testing now...
and i'll see what happens...

go to -> versiontracker.com/php/qs.php?mode=basic&action=search&str=cpu+monitor&srchArea=macosx&submit=Go

and download iStat pro 4.9.. it's a dashboard widget which lets u monitor temperature of your CPU and a lot more... my CPU is way hotter than under Leopard... that's for sure..
and many many ppl having a scary frozen screen (too much snow under this Leopard?? - is this why it's cheap ;))

104.Posted by kenns on Aug 31 2009 at 18:45

thanks for seeding ElMJr33, the community is grateful to you...

105.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 19:21

@107 just so you know... today when i went to work i shut down my macbook pro went to my class switched it on and imported a CD.. my CPU ran at 85ºC while importing the CD... that is HOT!
right now its 63ºC running Vuze and Safari what still seems too much...
but this morning it was still the GM.
now it is the "retail" what so ever DVD image i downloaded here...
and i should think this wouldn't make a difference anyway.

106.Posted by rowbearto35 on Aug 31 2009 at 19:40

Downloaded without problem. Had to burn DMG file (with "Disc Utilities" and not Toast) to a DL-DVD first. Then zipped through installation without hitch - apparently working superbly! Many thanks to uploader.

107.Posted by drcrazykid on Aug 31 2009 at 21:34

well i scanned the dmg file with norton, nothing popped up, and since i've been running it i haven't had any problems with it, no freeziing, and as far the temperature goes i haven't checked yet....

108.Posted by kaosdroid on Aug 31 2009 at 22:48

@110.: the freezing and temperature issue affects the whole portable lineup from apple...
means all laptops and notebooks are affected... it hasn't got anything to do with this download here... so..
and seriously dude... norton? would you really believe that norton could tell if there was actually something wrong? i hope you're joking =)

109.Posted by seneroo on Aug 31 2009 at 22:58

in gm also i having freezing and temperature issues now i have just try to make a project on i movie and the temperature goes to 88 and when i try to use big file it freeze and close :) :) :) :) like windows " not responding" :r :r :r :r :r

110.Posted by ElMJr33 on Sep 01 2009 at 00:42

acouple hours in Testing, no real problems have accured, no freezing, slight Hi temp. Readings. i mounted it to a External Drive just like i said in #36. what seemed odd was that it only saved 6.2G on the Disk not the full 7.6, but what i did notice is there are optional installs like 2G worth i think. --- kaosdroid --- did you install these opts and xcode as well? plus do you get this toolbar pop up error, it come and it go's so quickly i cant read it to make it what it is????

thanks!

111.Posted by anmpir on Sep 01 2009 at 00:48

ADDITIONAL ADVICE:

If you do not have a spare drive or do not want to format the one external on you have, you can enable a spare iPod or MP3 player that can be used as a mountable disk.

Installing MacOSx.6 off a nano is the strangest thing in the world.

112.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 01 2009 at 00:56

@114 you can also use disk utility and make a partition (small enough for SL) on your internal HD .. what i think is very nice.. coz you always have the dvd for troubleshooting with you then..

113.Posted by seneroo on Sep 01 2009 at 00:58

i am already using ilife 09 lets see in retail what will happen now torrent is at 55% tomoraw i will installed and i will chack it... so as i understood the tempreture is still hot as gm

114.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 01 2009 at 01:03

for anybody who still doubts this download.. =) IT IS THE REAL THING...
but it is a .0 version and therefor some things aren't as nice as in the (like I mentioned
before in a post) "final version" which will be a .9 or something...
so for all those sukkerz who think apple deserves those 30 bugs... go and tell it your mom ;)

115.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 01 2009 at 01:04

@117. what machine are you running the GM on?

116.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 01 2009 at 01:11

@117.: yeah i dunno about this by now.. but seems to run better.. some ppl could solve the temperature issue with some tweaks like resetting the PRAM by holding down the command/opt/P/R keys on boot...

go ---> discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10091649#10091649

and check out the discussion there... i tried the tweaks too.. but they didn't seem to help
at least not on the GM... the retail didn't freeze still... but if it does i'll tell you...

again: by freezing i am reminded on spongebob squarepants and his futuristic adventures...
what means... tech support is over for today ;) coz i really need to SLEEP!

117.Posted by seneroo on Sep 01 2009 at 01:27

i have macbook pro unibody 17 inc

118.Posted by seneroo on Sep 01 2009 at 01:32

@120 do you think that temperature issue is related to ram and hhd couse i have macbook pro unibody 17 inc 4gb ram and 500gb hdd 5400 rpm

and i am really thinking to upgrade 6gb ram and 500 hdd 7200 rpm

119.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 01 2009 at 01:34

@121.: you as well...

go ---> discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10091649#10091649

there are some tweaks according to temperature and fan speed... i dunno if they
really help... some ppl report success...

120.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 01 2009 at 01:54

ok.. one last response for today... i see squidward before my eyes :/

@122.: dude... i dunno.. i think actually the temperature issue has a lot to do with how
snow leopard takes advantage of the intel architecture... the strange thing is even CPU isn't
used up (like in some cases it was up to 90% and then it does get hot - for sure - but in my
case CPU was at 25% max and had 85ºC but CPU monitors also sometimes don't tell the truth..

so anyway... no i think upgrading RAM won't make it better nor worse.. or upgrading the HD..
but i would suggest to look at your activity monitor and observe how much RAM you are really
using... coz upgrading this amount for a machine that doesn't run as a big main server doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.. ;)

so good night now! i'm in europe and it's like 2 am and i have students to teach tomorrow...

121.Posted by seneroo on Sep 01 2009 at 01:58

everybody talking about smc and i try it on gm and nothink change it is same tempreture is still high
i followed those steps

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (Late 2008 and later)
If the computer is on, turn it off by choosing Shutdown from the Apple (?) menu.
Connect the power adapter to a working power source.
On the built-in keyboard, press (left) Shift-Control-Option along with the power button once.
Wait 5 seconds and press the power button to start the computer.

@124 good night i am in dubai and the time is 4am :? and i have to wake up at 9 anyhow tomorow i will install the retail than i will post about the head and freezing issue

123.Posted by ElMJr33 on Sep 01 2009 at 03:30

@ kaosdroid thanks for letting me know how to find my errors, didn't know that. Well it didn't show up there, after an hour i figured out it had something to do with CandyBar 3.2, I just Zapped it away and all it's component and it hasn't popped up since. Also did some Tweaks with the temp. issue, Still The Same, I just gave up!

I'm also headin' off, it's 3:30am here, but ill leave my mac on for da rest of the night SEEDING for the 5000+ SnowLeopardFreaks still in line for this. ;)

125.Posted by howard500 on Sep 01 2009 at 07:26

Im a bit confused... So this is not the final final final retail version? Nearly but not quite?

What happens when Apple releases the first patch for Snow Leopard? Will that update just take care of any deficienceies found on this version? Will it install through software update like usual and get things back to "normal" and and get the OS fully back on an "up to date" track?

Thanks

129.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 01 2009 at 10:20

@129.: na don't worry this is the final retail... but it is a 10.6.0 and not a 10.6.something
so yeah.. i hope the first patch will take especially care of the heat issue...
there is a discussion on this on apples discussion forum... and the tech team seems to have been
informed about it.

@130.: this is not fake.. it's just somehow that the image has a weird size.. but when you mount it, it has the same size as the "retail" or GM... i don't have a checksum to prove.. but i ran it on a mac mini.. and now on my macbook pro and it doesn't seem to give me any troubles.. i mean apart from the now already known heat and fan issue (doesn't affect me too much though) the GM really froze 3 times in 1 day... : /

@131.: go to Disk Utility --> choose your entire HD ---> choose the Partition button ----> create a partition there by clicking in the volume scheme and then the little plus button -- by
default there will be the format "Mac OS Extended (journaled)" -- this is what you want -- make the size about
8 or 9 GB to be sure... --> then click apply
once you have done this, you should see your new partition in Disk Utility on the left side. choose it. and click on the restore button. you can now drag and drop the partition from the left to "Destination" as source choose your image by clicking on the image button and then browsing for it, or you simply drag and drop it from Finder... check erase destination (!!) then click on restore.. this takes a little while...
when ready restart press the "opt key" on reboot you can now choose from which partition to start.. choose your Mac OS X install Disk... press enter...

if you're having trouble understanding this or anything --- google is your friend =)

130.Posted by jnk01 on Sep 01 2009 at 11:38

Using it for about 24hours now, and I don't have any problems with it. ClamXav didn't find any trojans/virus on my whole disk either. However, I've got the feeling that this is a quite minor update... I didn't notice any big changes compared to Leopard.

131.Posted by seneroo on Sep 01 2009 at 12:38

132.Posted by BCtheDJ on Sep 01 2009 at 13:43

@132 kaosdroid

Thanks for walk through of process, always a good reminder of how simple it can be

However - I was specifically pointing at External Firewire Drive

In "my particular set up" and won't go into all the details, but imagine is similar for many

Firewire was a no-go in my installation - imagine that will be similar for many

Had to use USB External Drive - then it was very simple, just like you describe

:)

can this mac os be installed on normal pc running windows answer pleazzzz...

:r

144.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 01 2009 at 21:18

@145.: dude... boot camp is part of OS X since Leopard.. so any retail DVD should have the drivers... You make a partition with the BootCamp setup assistant... insert your windows CD - DVD - what ever - and follow the instructions...

@146.: there was a built on pirateBay ... but i can't find it now.. this built here cannot (without
any hacks and extra drivers) be installed on any PC running what ever OS (why the f..k windows=)
there is also GOOGLE you'll find forums and maybe torrents to some pre-patched DVDs like the one on pirateBay..

cheers

i have checked everything in this retail,it is not freezing but but but but its really hot the temperature is going so high level even it can burn the eggs as that much hot...

in general except temperature every think seems good ,,, and i have a tip for safari you can make safari work in 32 bit not 64 and its help to reduce the temp... go in app/safari and comment+i and in info box you will see use safari in 32 bit just click

and one more tip for who don't know how to boot in 64 bit >>>>>>go to about this mac>>>more info>>>>software you will see the boot is it yes or no i mean is it 64 bit or no
if no just do the following and you will be able to boot in 64 always

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist and open the boot.plist with text editor and find the following string.

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
?<string></string>

and change it to

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
? <string>arch=x86_64</string>

if it doesn't save just copy com.apple.Boot.plist to desktop and change and replace it

146.Posted by thingythingy on Sep 02 2009 at 01:33

Boot camp drivers are on a hidden partition. They can be extracted without burning by using the instructions here:

AEW¿
sry... guys... you gonna have some troubles after all with this image... or at least i think it
came right with this image (i can't prove it though i installed a lot since then)

if you already installed this image to your HD,
you may would wanna go to versiontracker and search for rkhunter (0.2 - is the version you want).

install it.. let it do a scan... there are going to be some warnings... you can solve them..
since it is still a unix system it isn't too difficult...
then go and search for little snitch in google... install the beta version it is the one compatible with SL
SHUT DOWN your TORRENT CLIENTS, check out the Network monitor of little snitch...

if your Mac OS X kernel (mach_kernel) is still trying to connect to certain ips hosts..
(it only does with torrent clients running so SHUT THEM DOWN before testing)
reply here...

is it possible that Apple has not released any update yet?

I installed a kitty, and so far everything seems ok, except that I had at the end of the installation that OS X can not be installed, but after reboot everything seems ok. Although planning for the weekend to do clean intall on my macbook-in.

temperature does not seem so high, when browsing the CPU is 65 C, which is ok, is not it ....

I have install it and running it at 64bit, so far everything works great. Except VMware Fusion 2.05 I have to press 3 and 2 to start in 32bit in order to run it properly.

For update there is one update from Apple, which is the Remote Management. I did not upgrade it this time cause each time I get it updated it gives me permission warning whenever I run repair permission from Disk Utility.

**Other tweaks that I have applied to Snow Leopard.

Mac login window display system time
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow AdminHostInfo Time

MAC OS X Disable waking up from sleep mode when lid opens
sudo pmset lidwake 0

Enable single window mode in Safari
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true

Sleep and No hibernate unless the battery is critical
sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 2

Disabling the Sudden Motion Sensor for SSD
sudo pmset -a sms 0

How to boot 64-bit Kernel by default at every boot
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>arch=x86_64</string>

Reset SMC MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (Late 2008 and later)
Turn off computer, ensure connect to power source, press (left) Shift-Control-Option along with the power button once. Wait 5 seconds before turn on the computer.

After resetting the SMC I can get a complete load into OS within 6 to 7 sec.

FYI, just recall the latest update available for SL up until now (Sept 4 2009)

Apple Remote Desktop 3.3.1 Client Update
The 3.3.1 update is recommended for all Apple Remote Desktop clients and addresses several issues related to overall reliability and security.
For detailed information on this update, please visit this website:

I do not recommend anyone to update it since it mess up with permission warnings during permission repair from Disk Utility.

FYI: you shouldn't download this version it has some malware in it.
After 2 days of testing another download and this one.. i realized
that there is something wrong with it and IT IS THIS IMAGE and not
anything else as i suspected in the first case...
I downloaded an image from the pirate bay... (the box set..
I only checked the OS to download though)
it doesn't give me the same troubles... your kernel will try to connect
to certain ip and host addresses using this image here what is suspicious
it could be a backdoor or some trojan activity. your kernel does connect
to some IPs when using a torrent client, what is normal. BUT it shouldn't
do this when there is no such client running.
you can observe those connections using "little snitch". after some hours
of testing with 2 clean installs (using this image and the one from pirate bay)
i came to the conclusion that THIS IMAGE is NOT untouched and you should
get another one if you don't wanna be spied on...

184.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 04 2009 at 13:24

@186: don't worry about the update.. it is a SECURE thing to NOT be able
to change permissions (this is what means the warning message) on
the remote desktop client. because otherwise remote desktop client could be used
to f you in the a =)

if you wanna be very sure about a nice install go to apple support page and search
for the 3.3.1 version download it and install it from you hard disk.. doesn't make
a difference for the warning message though.. coz it is like it should be..

Can someone give me instructions on how to make a clean intall the snow leopard, do i need discs that came with macbook to do that or only this image

I did upgrade, and my mac is noticeably slower, perhaps because there are a lot of applications and documents. however I think that should do clean install.

please help with this ...

190.Posted by Kadoma on Sep 05 2009 at 03:54

At $29 for a legit copy, why not just buy it and save yourselves time and aggravation plus insure you can keep it up to date?

191.Posted by socelot on Sep 05 2009 at 07:56

@193: man I dont see "Mach_kernel" or "Mac OS X kernel" in my little snitch. plus all the other native applications and services are connected to the apple.com or me.com. I think it's clean.

192.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 05 2009 at 11:40

@195. FU
@196. I found out what it was... and i am stupid... skype was installed (and skype works like a p2p app) it does cause the kernel to connect... really really paranoid there hehehe

193.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 05 2009 at 11:41

@197 and the issues found in rkhunter didn't turn out to be real issues.. just weird but no problems....

194.Posted by socelot on Sep 05 2009 at 16:41

@197 so finally u agreed that this version is clean.
OK everyone seed other ppl need snow leopard! ;)

195.Posted by dgg32 on Sep 06 2009 at 01:44

About 7 GB against 6 GB: As far as I am concerned, this 7 GB version contains the bootcamp drivers. Those drivers are appro. 1 GB huge. So generally speaking, they account for the difference here. In fact, many people are looking around for these drivers in forums, oppositely, the OS SL is not that difficult to find. So guys, you are downloading a real gem here.

About the trojan. I have no idea. But some wise guy said, there are 2 trojan out there for Mac and SL has been patched against both.

196.Posted by dgg32 on Sep 06 2009 at 01:47

By the way, I have downloaded it from macosx.****.co.in via **********. My download has the same md5 posted here before: 8bce5139afaaa5a8fcda213edf5202b1.

I just can't wait for the slow delivery ;)

197.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 06 2009 at 11:29

@199.: yeah, and downloading many versions I only found one that was suspicious and it didn't have any of those 2 trojans... there is a lot of more things you can do to an image of an OS than install some trojans ;)

@201. yeah md5 of the original retail wasn't to get anywhere.. i found like 5 different md5 checksums claimed to be the ones from the original retail... :/
still seeding... still slow as it seems...

198.Posted by tkw2003 on Sep 07 2009 at 05:36

is it possible to install this on a non-mac PC/LAPTOP? :) :)

@ 197...thanks and FU too.

Please seed! I will explain how to install Snow Leopard without burning a DVD!

If you download the Snow Leopard beta, you can install it by burning it on a DVD. But.. It has to be a dual layer DVD since it is over 4.7 gigabyte ISO file (a single layer DVD carries 4.7 gigabytes, while a dual layer handles nearly double the size (8.54 gigabytes)

I couldn’t find a dual layer dvd at home so I had to find an other solution to solve this problem. So how I did it?
Putting all the files on a memory stick (I used a 8 gigabyte pendrive there is 1,48 gigabyte free on it so…) .
Second question: how do I put the files on it? Well its quiet simple:

open your disk utility
then erase your memory stick into Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
then click on the “Restore”-tab. As source, drag the MOUNTED iso file to the edit, as destination, drag the MOUNTED usb stick to it.
Click Restore, and you should get something like this:Now reboot your Mac while holding the alt key. There should prompt a choose thing, so you can chose to boot your OS X partition (your Windows partition via bootcamp) and your USB drive. Choose your USB drive and let it boot up.

Now the only thing is doing what the installer says you to do!

Thanks so much. Worked fine for me. I burned it to my external HDD and installed from there np.
Mwah

202.Posted by beegwally on Sep 08 2009 at 05:46

I think it is great that you guys are seeding it. Personally I am going to buy it just because it is my operating system. But hey I will also downlead and seed from my windows box LOL :+

203.Posted by soonerst50 on Sep 09 2009 at 15:03

ok can someone give me a step by step way of burning this to a DVD-DL. I'm a new user and I feel like this will be easier than using the external HD. I used Vuze to download and would like to know from the beginning how to take it from Vuze all the way to burning and installing. Thanks so much!!!

204.Posted by elix76 on Sep 09 2009 at 22:44

safari seems to be dead after the upgrade
also, clicking on 'about this mac' doesn't open the little details window. strange.

205.Posted by orthorim on Sep 10 2009 at 02:16

"STOP DOWNLOADING AND GO BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I generally agree.

However, I did buy it, and the DVD was bad, and the shop is far away, so I'd like to have an alternative. Why can't I just D/L this from the iTunes store, I wonder?!

206.Posted by elix76 on Sep 10 2009 at 15:08

..advice about what we should download or not in a torrent site, pointless.

207.Posted by grafiron on Sep 10 2009 at 21:30

Please don't download this. It is not Micro****. This is Apple!!!!

209.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 11 2009 at 14:13

@214. I don't get your point man..
is it because Steve's got cancer now? Or you do seriously think that apple are the "good guys"?
i tell you: if it costs ***** you better download it... no matter who's got cancer... ;)

210.Posted by kaosdroid on Sep 11 2009 at 14:16

213.Posted by pranavm on Sep 12 2009 at 14:12

snow leopard is not worth the upgrade. i am a big fan of mac but i think that snowleopard simply did not do ANYTHING diferent to my mac. just one or 2 visual upgrades but other than that its exactly the same.

demonoid (the tracker for this torrent) has been under service for quite a few days now. most people cant connect with this torrent right now. hence the crappy d/l speeds.
