I think there will be a Will Smith movie in DEC 2007, a remake of this.

I hope Will Smith doesn't remake this orig it would tarnish the memory of Bruno. (classic Kiwi actor). It's like a remake of a song, either make or break and Will smith would "Break". Sorry he is not a good actor.

The Will Smith one "I am Legend" is a remake of the old Charlton Heston
one "Omega Man". I haven't watched THIS one yet (Quiet Earth) so don't know
if it's similar - last man after terrible virus type thing ? ! ?

They're sort of similar films. Omega man has a virus, but the reason for (almost) everyone vanishing in The Quiet Earth has a quite different.

Actually, Will Smith's movie goes back to the original source of Heston's, the 1954 book, I Am Legend, written by Richard Matheson.

An excellent and original film. If you like this I recommend The Omega Man [1971] with Charlton Heston, and The Last Man on Earth [1964] with Vincent Price.

This IS a GREAT sci-fi film.
FIRST, LET ME TIE TOGETHER FACT AND SUPPOSITION ON THIS:
========================================================
"cimmeria" and "De_Kursk" were completely correct on "The Omega Man"/"I am Legend"; and "AllenSmithee" was right about the uniqueness of this artistic masterpiece.
MY OWN PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS AND EXPERIENCE WITH THIS MOVIE:
============================================================
"The Quiet Earth" (1985) was largely overlooked here in the USA, however, the old Siskel & Ebert movie reviewers on TV gave it prominent mention and both listed it on their annual Top Ten Movies lists.
That prompted me to seek it out and I was very glad that I did.
The premise IS totally original -- no "spoilers" from me -- just d/l it and give it a try. You're in for a REAL TREAT!

I just spent hours waiting for this movie to d/l because I saw it shortly after it came out and haven't seen it since. I've been trying to find it but after a while I even forgot the title. I was SOOO surprised and happy. Then after hours (why is this so slow?) I start the movie only to find there's no sound..............

This film really was a work of genius wasn't it!
The blerb on the back cover said "The best science fiction film of the Eighties", and I think that's actually true!
Thanks for the other torrent tip!
