You need to use media player classic

open the avi video file and then go to the file menu
and then select load subtitles , point it to the sub file and load it

Great movie, well worth downloading Sound 8.5/10, Video 9.5/10

Comes without subtitles, but you can access English subtitles from www.opensubtitles.org - check out this link --> http://www.opensubtitles.org/en/subtitles/3120384/zwartboek-en

Just have subtitles and the .avi file in the same folder, and use VLC, Mplayer, etc.

If you are a Linux user, you can encode the subtitles onto the .avi file, using the mencoder command e.g.
mencoder -ovc xvid -xvidencopts fixed_quant=5 -oac copy -sub subtitle-file.srt -subfont-text-scale '3.5' -o output-file.avi input-file.avi

I downloaded the subtitles file indicated, 3rd one down on the list, and when I play the movie in the VLC media player, under Video it says Subtitles with Track 1 selected. I still have no subtitles displaying at all. Now what?

24.Posted by AncientElite on Nov 23 2007 at 07:54

When i look at the list http://www.opensubtitles.org/en/imdbid-0389557 it's the 4th one down... look for FXM in the subtitle name.

And to the people that can only watch movies that are in english... maybe you should stick to movies that have english as the main language or learn how to read.

25.Posted by Junkee41 on Dec 01 2007 at 12:41

thanks for the help with the subtitles... but is there anyway i can embed the subtitles on the movie instead of opening the subtitles file everytime i watch it??

There are very English subtitles about but most seem to be half complete. Anyway, I found the following SRT file (subtitle file) worked just fine and are for the whole film

http://www.opensubtitles.com/en/download/sub/3254630

For those that don't know, put the file into the same directory as the film and apart from the extension (i.e .SRT), make the filename the same as the film name. When you run your player, you should then see the titles

Enjoy!!

It says the "LANGUAGE.. is ..:Dutch-English-German", how and when do you get the English?? It should be made clear this is not an English film, thanks for the wasted time :( :( :( :'(

The reason for the film being in 3 languages is quite simple to see as you watch the film......The Dutch are speaking Dutch because they are in Holland....The British speak English because that is their native language and in the 1940´s few British spoke a European language and the Germans also spoke only German.....Think about it for a moment then you will get the drift.

The DVD itself was not issued with three invidual soundtracks, that is why you can not access a different language such as English, Dutch or German because it is a multi language soundtrack in the first place.
