Mate, post more details, or try this, go to add/remove programs and uninstall the registry keys. Start over from install of registry keys,
be sure to select change when installing and browse for the exact folder to where you have placed the game, select that folder as your install directory and click next twice to install the keys.
All should work fine after that mate.

Thanx Dopeman have tried that! so f@@@ knows what im doing wrong.been to add and remove programs,deleted cmr back to reg set up, install,change then browse to my "GAMES" folder then "NEXT" then run cmr5 and bang crash!! if i expand "games" folder to cmr folder error message reads : ERROR (-1017,7b) :unable to create folder documents and settings blah blah.any ideas bud?? THANX for your help,i dont have any probs with any of your others must just be me being a thicko i guess

hey mate, it seems the folder you are trying to put it in is not 'register friendly' , like if you try to put it in the folder the download comes in [PC] blah balh [dopeman] the symbols [] can not enter your registry so it will feeed you that error. try putting the game in your programs folder, or make a new folder like c:/gaming/cmr2005 then all should be fine.
'odd' symbols just can not be used in ones registry, cuz it wont allow it. give it a shot.

HELP ME PLEASE:
I have installed the game in a folder
e:\games\colin\
i have read the nfo file (then i install it in e:\games\colin\, i watch 2 new file after this)
the game start, i have the menu to select race,, career, ...
But when I launch a race, i have a error message from the game :
the game is bad installed, reinstall-it!
I desinstalled it and reinstalled, but i have THE SAME PROBLEM 
What's the problem? HELP ME PLEASE

Yes Terminator82 I have the same problem, I installed and desinstalled thousand times, put patch again, used diferent cracks, etc, nothing seems to work, please Dopeman help us.
Pd: I'm using the default install folder C:\Program Files\Codemasters\Colin McRae Rally 2005\

hey everyone
as you can see is the upper post also mine, but I have solved the problem.
I downloaded the 1.1 patch and copy the files manualy into the game folders, and now it works, I also have a movie in the start-up.
the patch I use can be found by this link:

Listen I had the same problems getting it to work. I simply selected c:program files as the location to put the game. I ended up with two folders in program files, one was Colin Mcrae (which was from when I tried to make a folder) the other was Colin McRae Rally 2005 which I think was from me just letting the game install to where it would normally go. Anyway the first folder, running the regsetup.exe then tried to install the game crashed. I then went into the Colin McRae Rally 2005 folder and selected that folder, did the regsetup and it worked like a charm. It does work.

i did have a small prob with my analogue controler though. had a slight delay in responsivenes. anyone else have this prob just add ANALOGUECONTROLS to the target line shortcut. any chance of uploading the co-driver files mate? not quite a rally game without them.

I i am re asking a question just point me to the answer... but i am also having alot of trouble finding a fix to a problem with my colin mcrae 2005. Its basically crashing either when i try to select a vehicle, and moreover when i try to launch a race.. i havent found any other places it crashes, but definately does in those 2 places. If somebody could help me out that would be great!!!

furulevi i found out what to do when i got that message i downloaded this patch: ColinMcRaeRally2005v1.1NoDVDFixedexeAll.rar just manually install and overwrite the files to the directory where u installed the game. heres the link: http://www.gameburnworld.com/dl/dl.php?file=ColinMcRaeRally2005v1.1NoDVDFixedexeAll.rar

Im sorry but...
This is a bad upload of a good rally game
There are co-driver commentarys missing, and for some reasons the UK Co-Driver can only say the countdown at the start and the only co-driver working is the UK Co-Driver. (thats obviously becouse there are now other Co-drivers Installed!! Is there any way i can get them without having to buy this game ?) 
The game works fine for me except for the co-drivers voice prob. the installation is simple but i would have prefered to get a simple image of the game!

It says right on the download page that the co-drivers voice was ripped from the game. Maybe you should read the nfo. before you download.

Just wondering if anyone had this issue with their download.....
I unzip to a new location, C:\Games, then run the regsetup and I get an error saying that i cannot reinstall since a previous installation was found on my system, that i must uninstall it first, then it asks if it would like the program to uninstall it for me, yes or no, but it doesnt do anything.
I try again right after and it gives the same message. I have combed my registry and Add/remove programs list, but there is no sign of colin mcrae 2005 and Ive never installed it before, It started doing this from the first time I ran Regsetup. Anyone have any suggestions?

Solution
Install Thursday
1) Download and install the 1.1 patch for the game on
http://www.codemasters.co.uk/downloads/?downloadid=16671
2) Download and install the patch so-called 64-bit "for this game, you find on the site
http://www.codemasters.co.uk/downloads/?downloadid=20835 ~
Install the patch even if you are 32-bit version.
3) Thursday Launch This will install the drivers protection system, and then ask you to restart the PC. Do it.
4) Vista will block the pilot system of protection, because of problems of incompatibility. Download and install the update drivers protection system found on http://www.star-force.com/protection/users/

- You get that error when you try to change the co-pilot's language (doesn't work on any language though..). Turn it back to english and it should work just fine.
Anyone nows how to get co-pilot voice, or do I have to download the game again with another torrent in order to get it?

OK I got it working and Dopeman...ur NFO is B/S!
This is how u do it:
1.Unrar CMR file with latest WinRar
2.Run RegSetup.exe and change the destination to other folder
For example: D:\Games\Colin McRae Rally (not Program Files)
3.After you press "Finnish" go to the unrared folder
wich containes RegSetup.exe
4.Copy all the files in this folder
5.Paste them in (example) D:\Games\Colin McRae Rally
6.Run the game with CMR5.exe inside this folder

And in the future do not complicate things so much - create ISO!

i made it work with vista
all you have to do is install the regsetup and maybe change the destination folder to the unrared folder and right click the CMR5.exe
after that oress to "Run as administrator"
i didnt download any updates and it worked

lishen lishen... i extracted cmr then i run the regsetup.exe. then i run cmr5.exe but still it crashes... i read the readme.txt and i saw diretcx 9c.. i download then installed directx and wallah... it worked.. i dont even know what directx does.. but oh welll

i opened the file and clicked on reg... and installed it to the file where the game drivers were and installed it and then clicked on cmr5... and it came up 'cmr5 had to close ...

I cant hear the co-driver either. With this games odd-simulation its a bit hard to race without pace notes, especially on unfamiliar tracks. How can this be fixed?
