Change your UMD driver to Sony.
Go to recovery mode by holding R when turning on your PSP then go to Configuration. Click X on the UMD mode untill it reads Sony.
The three options are Sony, Normal and M33.
The game will play fine on Sony mode only.
This is the same for the game Patapon.
