Not incredibly expensive is a relative turm. Under 1,000 the are some great cameras. Google Nikon, Canon, and thers and tou are sure to find what you want

Get over to http://www.fishforums.net/forums.html there maybe some help on cameras there.
Some good photo's of fish by mostly ammateurs but some good ons as well.

catfish/cory section has a good photographer(won't post his username here) but click through a few threads on there your sure to find his close ups of his fish.

I still didn't saw the photos I just started downloading but since I am an experienced wedding photographer -but I love macros as my hobby- I am sure you can find many (almost half or more new models)within the 250-350euros range that can focus from 1cm to 5cm. I would recommend sony or fuji. Search DPreview.com for the best info possible. No1 for me.

Good (though...and Bad >-) ) news are... The art, of lighting your subject, lighting it correctly , is what will do the difference in your every photo, not the camera

Under 1000range today you can find D-SLRS. In fact an EOS 450D or EOS 40D are more like 650-850.
Cool?
Fairly good compact cameras are like 180-350euros.
With 400-700euros you can get top of the line compact cameras!
Just making sure nobody gets misinformed here...
