thanks,
i see what you meant last week about 350mb x264 being to generous for the ws.pdtv source. considering the doctor who HQ editions, 233mb for 25-27min should be great.

MM: if the HQ and std versions are the same size, what's the difference between them?

And yes, MM is the best!

DWi, thats just plane ignorance
x264 in mkv owns xvid in avi any day, especially with the encoding profile MM uses. just cause your old divx player cant play it doesn't mean its bad. go back a few years when all those things could play was SVCD at best, and that didn't mean that divx/xvid was bad just cause stand alone players didn't play it.

Landstander
enable DHT and PEX which should always be on and it will work.

thats the thing about these, this is as good as a 350mb+ xvid.
also this is not xvid, this is x264 with "insane profile"(last time i heard) quality settings.
in fact when MM was doing doctor who 2005 s03 hq edtions at 350mb (=same size as xvid), they looked as good as 700mb xvids for the show.

so these are definitely much better then the xvid of it which is of equal file size, which is what makes these so great.

Weird. Demonoid is back up, but MM's SJA releases STILL aren't listed.

Thanks death734,
I'm just concerned about whether I'll be able to play it back on old-ish hardware under Ubuntu Feisty. Does the decode take a lot of CPU? Is x264/mkv open and supported by free players?

Dogbreath
If you use ConvertXtoDvd to convert it you will be able to play it in your dvd player.
What I did with the Doctor Who series of Mad Martha's HQ editions, I converted several episodes at once so I ended up with them on four dvds.
Hope this helps.
