Don't need half life 2 to play this game, but if u have a good pc, buy the orange box, because u cant max settings and change to 16:9 aspect ratio in this version.

Luv ya dopeman for putting up this torrent, but, and this isn't your fault, i am having some problems and was hoping someone could help me. i can load the game using the my pc suks version, but once the first portal appears to start, i get an error saying the program had to shut down. i've tried re-adjusting the settings for this, but it still doesn't work. is there any way for me to get this to work. i REALLY want to play this game. Fixed the DirectX problem...
Go here: http://mixman.res.lt/stuff/hl2/half-life.2.episode.two-patch.exe
Point it towards the bin folder (I think) or wherever the engine.dll file is.
But now when I start the game, I get to the part where the countdown finishes and the portal is about to open and then it freezes. Any ideas?

Everyone with Direct X 8 errors need to upgrage 3d cards. Even though you have DX9 software installed, your 3d card doesnt support it. I learned my 3d card only supported DX7.

NVM, used the patch, but now it gives a similar problem to sm07, except that I can enter the portal before hl2.exe needs to close and that Windows is sorry for the inconvinience. Ummm. what went wrong?

This game is supposed to run without HL2, but it doesn't. I keep getting the error "Could not load library client." I've tried everything I can think of but nothing seems to work. It always gives me that error and them quits.

You're not supposed to click the hl2.exe. You click the Play Portal Ms-dos thing.

Advanced levels (the ones you get after finishing the game) are not working properly. The game crashes after you finish the level.

For those who error at the first portal I have found a simple solution.
Change the game resolution to 640x400 it should work anything below 800x600 should work, and has worked for me.
The portals look nothing like they do for those without the errors however, as all you can see is a glow and sparkles where the portal should be, but it still works, have fun.

I have the same problem as aznxenocide, even with TravisOD's fix. No dice, no portals, and for whatever reason, Glados stops talking in the middle of her beginning-of-the-game speech on the lower resolution.

I downloaded it everything worked perfect, but now i have a dx problem because i clicked PC SuKS PoRTaL .bat. Nice game but I have a problem when I run the "PLAY_PoRTaL.bat"...my pc reboots 3 seconds after load ...Only "MyPC_SuKS_PoRTaL.bat" is working here. And When I type on console to change the dxlevel to 9.0 (mat_dxlevel 90) the system reboots too
Does anyone know how to fix it?

Well, I have been having the HL2.exe error once I go through the first Portal. I have seen that Intel chipsets are having problems with this game, is this correct? I have WinXP, 3.4GHz CPU, 128mb of on board VRAM and 2 gigs of RAM. The only thing I can see being wrong is me needing a video card, do you think that would help my situation?

Like many of the people who've commented, I've had the 'I get to the first room and the portal opens and then the game crashes with the the message: hl2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.' problem.. It would be quite helpful to me and many others if there is some way to solve this.

this game rocks lol finished in a few days, very short and easy game, its actually really easy if you pay attention , if you don't its like impossible ^_^. But anyway if your using winxp , shouldnt be any problem playing this game, just unrar and click PLAY_PoRTaL batch.

I'm having the same problem as others, sort of. If I set the portals to their lowest possible setting then I can get out of the portal. I can even stay out of the portal for a few seconds if I don't look up. If I look up at the room next to me then I crash to desktop. The "640x480" setting didn't fix this. Setting all possible settings to their lowest didn't fix it either. I know it's very likely to be my graphics card, but if anyone has any useful info on how to play the game with a bad graphics card (I've heard others say they could do it) then please let us know.

Awesome torrent. Downloaded quick and easy. Installed the same. Runs even better. The only hang up I have is the fact that I have no idea how to make a desktop shortcut. Is there any way to make a desktop shortcut with the hl2.exe icon. I use the PLAY_PoRTaL.bat file to play the game, but when I create a shortcut of that I don't get the little half-life/portal icon for the shortcut. Am I making any sense, probably not, oh well. Better yet is there any way of changing the location of a shortcut but keeping the icon.
If you can't help me with that can you tell me why hl2.exe does absolutely nothing except say that a setup file 'gameinfo.txt' doesn't exist in subdirectory 'hl2' I would figure since it's an executable file, that it was supposed to run the game, but this stupid .bat file is what let's me play. I know I am probably doing something wrong, so any help would be appreciated.

@dVolta mate using the original exe dosent work for the majority of pirate games!! cant give u a technical reason why (normally its due to the cd not being present/original) but in this this case this is a steam game without steam, the sacrifice is the use of bat file instead of the normal game exe otherwise u need to use steam buster and all that isnt it easier just to unrar click and play?
well anyway make bat file shortcut right click properties under the shortcut tab click "change icon" (it will give u an error ignore it) browse to -you game folder-\portal\hl2\resource\game thast ur icon sorted and u can change the name as well if it bothers you.

Your release had a tendency to crash every now and then on Win 2K (whereas my legit HL2 + Episodes from Steam run stably on W2K) but that wasn't a big issue. Thanks for yet another release dopeman!

@Edox101 Thanks a bunch mate. I already knew about the .exe files but now I feel really stupid. I must've have right-clicked/properties on that .bat shortcut a hundred times trying to change the icon, and not once did I notice a 'Change Icon' button. game works i have alredy finished it, game is a litle short but there are bonus levels.
Game is super great.
There is a litle bug when you finish any of advanced chambers game crashes.

Why is it that so many people have asked why is DOES work, up until you walk through the first portal. People say "change it to a lower resolution" and "uncheck the funnel thingy" and "download a patch"
The thing is, THE GAME WORKS for mst of us UNTIL we go through the first portal, then it 'unexpectedly quits', even though I did expect it after the 6th try.
Anyone know what is wrong? My PC is almost brand new and can handle COD:4 so why not Portal???

Oi! I'm having troubles (namely the same ones all of you are having, and my PC is new and perfectly capable of running Portal. I've run it successfully before.) but I'm working on it. ok, everything worked perfectly game starts up fine, I have all the options on full

I have a decent (I stress decent) PC. I clicked on the "Play_Portal.bat", and nothing happened (Other than command prompt opening for a split second). Then I did the "My PC Suks" one, and nothing happened again. I tried the .exe, and I got the "... *.txt" missing error message. Can anyone help?

About fixing the "DirectX 8.0" problem:
I've downloaded Dopeman's "Half-Life 2: Episode Two" and it had the same glitch. To fix it, I did not use the "PLAY_EP2.exe" launch file but rather created a shortcut of "hl2.exe" in the folder and specified "-game ep2 -dxlevel 80 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0" after the target line. It then looked exactly like this:
"\yourinstalldirectory\hl2.exe" -game ep2 -dxlevel 80 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0
I suppose that by applying a similar set-up to Dopeman's Portal (it also being a Valve game) the problem may be rectified.

1st download program of course then extract i used winrar then go inside the portal folder and copy the gamestate txt to the hl2 folder

then choose to save then go back inside the bin folder (not the bin that's inside the portal folder but the one that's inside the main folder the one inside the portal folder only has two files that's NOT the one you want)the one inside the main portal folder has many more than two files it has a file inside of it called dxsupport use notepad to open this one and change the first zero to a one save it. now after that i copied the orange h2 file not the one we downloaded but the one that came with portal the one we downloaded looks the same but it says (half-life.2.episode***o-patch) we are going to use that but not now take that first one that came with the portal download and copy it and put it inside each of the following folders both bin folders,hl2,and portal the second portal folder but it be inside the main portal folder also remember i said copy and paste not cut and paste***w place the (half-life.2.episode***o-patch)the one we downloaded inside the same folders ok almost finished now go inside the bin folder the one with all the files and click on the patch the one we downloaded the one that says (half-life.2.episode***o-patch) it should patch the engine.dll file if it does not or you get an error it's inside the wrong bin folder ok now click on the first orange hl2 patch the one that came with the portal download the game should start (if not go back and follow my steps precisely)when the game starts go to options then go to video set all graphics to lowest settings and set your video resolution to the lowest settings after you do that apply it and start a new game it will work flawlessly

I have got now 4 games from dopeman he always makes sure his stuff works and if there are gliches in his uploads he finds a way around them with a fix or patch This dude knows his **** and takes pride in his uploads
