I assume that all of you who got this to work have a fully paid version of DT-Pro 4.10 so you had no problems creating an IDE adapter. I cannot and the version + patch that came with this download is not allowing me to create one.

it gives me an error message saying that the driver is not intended for this platform. then when i hit finish the program seems to lock up for a coupld minutes and gives me a device problem 1.

i checked the DT forums and those who have posted about this same issue are told that they dont have customer tags and thats why it doesnt work, but no solution was given. any ideas?

If the game doesn't start this is often a problem with your videocard. (NVIDEA). Download the newest driver for your videocard. Older versions like 6200 do have 256 MB memory, but they will only run (in new games) with the newest driver. Greets farao

Got it running.

runs fairly smoothe MAX settings so far on a 7800 GTX and Athlon 3700 OC'ed @ 2.6GHz. Only on the videos does it get a tad choppy at times.

Yeah, never mind i just went into the file archive and found that somehow i missed about 50% of the files... Doesn't make much sense since there wasn't any kind of error and i was just copying over the entire directory... ohh well.

Wait, I found a solution but i don't know if is for all. (sorry for my english).1. Make all the README of the torrent writes!!!The new things that i make are:
1.Move the Folder "The Witcher" from the zip file of the torrent to

So close i can smell it! Everything except installing 'Windows6.0-KB940105-x86.msu' when i clicked that i got "Installer encountered an error:
0x80070026" "reached the end of the file" so that didnt work. when i launch it i get these errors

the witcher\system\miles\mssdolby.flt
the witcher\system\miles\mssds3d.flt
the witcher\system\miles\mssdsp.flt
the witcher\system\miles\msseax.flt
the witcher\system\miles\msssrs.flt is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. try installing the program again using the orig. install. media or contact your sys. admin. or soft. vendor for support.
i get that that error for everyone of those files rite in a row. everything with daemon tools went fine. it even shows that its reading the fixed image after i click on the launch button. any idea's? support the sceen dont be a bahamma mamma! peace! ps thanks again dopeman genius

OK, just a tip for people who haven't got the download yet:

Using WinRAR *may* not work for extracting the .7z file. I tried about three times and was missing about half the content. Use 7Zip instead, which is available for download here: http://www.7-zip.org/

Not sure why this happens, but 7Zip works fine.

It seems some people have not read the instructions correctly. For those who have said they have mounted the image and nothing happens, well read the instructions fully! It does not say start up and install, you must run the DirectX setup, then install the Microsoft runtime update, and then go to The Witcher folder and run regsetup.exe.

THENNNN, double-click launcher to run the game.

first off great job dopeman. i have one problem.. i installed the game and actually played it successfully. however when i try to play it again using launcher it asks me for the witcher cd. im also confused about the last part of the read me where it says "When a crack is produced, simply copy the crack to the game directory, no more DT_PRO needed". i dont remember seeing a new crack or anything, is there somethign i might of missed?

for all who've managed to get the game to work:

1. are ya'll using the russian crack to get the game to work or the mounting method??

2. if using the crack, does ur game load without a glitch??

i personally am using the game wit the crack & have found tat every time i load into a new level, the main charactre (Geralt) gets stuck. so i have to save, quit to main menu & load bk to get him to move....

also after givin triss the potion the game does not load into the next lvl/phase..

3. the mounting part did not work for me as it still asked for the original disk..

i sure wish dopeman could take some time off & answer a few of these questions...

For those who are having different problems when playing the game (freezes, lock-ups) open your witcher folder go to system and open 'player.ini' then erase the line 'Disable autosave = 1'

Apparently, it was disabled to make loading times quicker (avoiding autosaves) but it also presented numerous problems.

Try it, worked for me

copy the file dtpro.dat from the all users, application data ... to the all users.... in my case Datos de programas instead of application data and DT works fine...

Hey... Don't know if this was posted yet, but I did a quick scan and didn't see it.

I too had the problem where I followed all the steps correctly and then tried to run the game. I was always getting the Windows Encountered an Error message.

Turns out that the primary game folder needs to be in the root directory of whichever drive you have the game on. For example, H:\The Witcher. Doesn't matter which drive, just has to be in the root. That fixed it for me.

2.downloaded official update TheWitcherPatch_1.1a.exe 115meg and installed !
3.used The Witcher v1.1/v1.1a [RUSSIAN] Fixed EXE

3 hours into the game now !

btw...this game seems to default to max settings. The intro movie showing Geralt going into the keep was a jittery slideshow. Once the game started I set it to medium and it improved in-game and out.

I only have a x800 ati card (although all pipes opened via BIOS flash), 2 GB RAM, and AMD Opteron 146 CPU.

I don't know why the game starts with all graphics options maxed with my hardware.

the thing is, the generic 1.2 patch doesnt apply! not with mine anyway, saying something about Windows Xp service pack 2 et cetera, which can be described as inaudible, which is quite a struggle, as if there is a much quicker way to cook your favourite meal but you just dont have the cooker to do it......

It has a pop up that says:

"The Witcher is not installed properly
cannot be patched"

and I click ok...

I already moved the witcher directory to c:\program files\

I have the IDE loaded on D-Tools so i can play the game perfectly right now (all the pre-1.2 bugs though)

1) What should I do?

ok I'm gonna help u guys 1 more time and that's it until next year. this is to Esh u need a free program called 7z to unzip the file just google and download it.and to FIndInEMO and Googooly u only have to unzip the witcher7z file once 'not twice' but once. if your mds file is 0 byte u did something wrong it's not suppose to be 0 byte and when u mount the mds file with the ide drive it's suppose to read it I don't know why your file says 0 byte hope this helps "dude it's really easy installation" thanx dopeman best pc rpg ever.

Dopeman's instructions are simple and clear - really should work for near everyone...

BUT THERE IS ONE IMPORTANT THING HE LEFT OUT...

The path for the game really needs to be ":/program files/The Witcher"
for the game to work.

So that's "C:/program files/The Witcher" or "D::/program files/The Witcher" or whatever... files don't have to be on "C:" you can have them on any drive, just so long as the path is ":/program files/The Witcher".

And remember to double click "Regsetup" again if you move "The Witcher" folder, otherwise you will not be able to patch...

i uploadet .mdf noCD crack for this game,
and i tested it. However there must by .mds file as well.
If you have any more questions dont hesitate to ask.

P.S. once you install The Witcher i would advice to defragment your HD

A little bit more info i discovered.

If you download the Uncensored content files, which are floating around. I CAN CONFIRM THAT THEY "WORK PERFECTLY".

This will turn the witcher into the uncensored version.

Update time.
I got it working, sort of. For some reason, god knows how, daemon tools finally was able to load the .MDS file and I got 2 hours of gameplay. No crack or patch 1.2.
Now I'm trying to load it up again, DT won't load the mds file even with SCSI controllers disabled. Giving the same garbage that it can't open the image in kernel mode.
And all my saves are gone. Yay.

May the great polar bear bless you all, because you really need all the help you can get.
1) DL this file and unrar, i used winrar, the latest version should do.
3) Move folder "The Witcher" that u just unrarred to programfiles.
3b)You might want to patch it now, the 1.2 works with me, you can get it from witcher.com or what ever their homesite is.
4) I had Vista so i couldn't use the dt pro. I havent found any image files in the torrent, so i downloaded the NoCD crack from Odinas. Just dl the NoCD (type Odinas on minovas search and you should find it.) There are 2 ways i'v got this to work.
5) First with alcohol 120 trial, but the trial ended...
The newest Daemon tools will work too. (DAEMON Tools Lite v4.12.0 )
6) Just mount the .mds file in the NoCD folder. Then click the "Launcher" located in the witcher folder.
Im wery bad at giving advice, but this is about the way i got it working.

I'm kinda new at this, I really like the way dopeman rips the games so there's no installing required. But something weird happens. When I try to extract the Tw1.1a.7z file Winrar gives me these diagnostic messages:

for those of you who are having problems, these steps are the exact same what i did and it worked perfectly. (on windows XP SP2)

1. use 7zip or WinRAR to extract the game, i put mine in C:/Games/The Witcher, it shoudlnt matter where. if the file wont extract, such as reporting a corrupt file, sorry guys but that means what it says, its corrupt, download it again, torrents can do that, bad luck

2. run the regsetup.exe file

3. make sure you use Daemon Tools PRO, not normal/lite. if you dont have that just search for it here on mininova.

4. once you have Daemon Tools PRO up and running, make sure you add a virtual IDE drive, not SCSI. in the program go Tools > Add IDE Virtual Drive, and if you have a SCSI drive there remove it.

A good rip this. Thanx dopeman. It can be patched (which is rare for rips) and it's ALL THERE at half the size.

My only problem is that it crashes every now and then. I don't know if it's this rip (as opposed to ISO), needs another patch or my comp. My comp's pretty good tho so maybe not that

I seem to have a problem no one has. But i'd be happy if anyone can help.
My problem is that i start the game, everything is perfect. Almost no lag and no errors. But sometimes, the game, no, my whole computer freezes during a cutscene or a talk. WTH is this? It isn't stopping at 1 particular part of the game. I can restart the computer and then play it again. But it will freeze. If i just remember to save, it will be okay. But it's so damn annoyin, i'm almost getting sick of the game. But it's so AWESOME!!!

its undetected, what i meant was like bitdefender doesnt detect it and other stuff, but i use spyware doctor evrytime i went off dt and i got the trojan. i just stopped using dt and use alcohol, either way, still an awesome game. thx dopeman

Okey I need help! I extracted the game, then I applied a crack (which is now avaible) named the_witcher_incl.crack-CDP (torrent). extracted it to the game system folder and removed the launcher and the game worked fine.
The intro works, i could start a new game. however this is where my problem occur!

After the cutscene and the very first fight the game kinda freezes when the old man asks if im okey :S I can see the subtitles but I cant hear the man say it. Also its not a complete freeze since the characters are still moving and i can hear the music. Its just as if the game just doesnt continue so i want to know what could be wrong? Do not use the Russian crack, follow these instructions posted by noldorianitalia.

1.Move the Folder "The Witcher" from the zip file of the torrent to

daemon tools uses rootkits to hide itself from games that look for it and disable its function. Anti-virus programs view pretty much all foreign root kits as bad, thats why antivirus progs will not like it and try to delete it. If you do not trust the author of the torrent(i do), try downloading daemon tools from the official website or a similar prog to make this work. There many other virtual drive programs out there.

Im still downloading the game, (its about at abot 35%) so i don't know the details of everyones props. i had 1 question for those who have already downloaded the torrent.. is the game in ISO format at first or is it just the install files on the harddisk after the initial setup. If its in ISO format many of you guys should just run the game off iso and not deal with all the problems deamon tools is giving you.

please just let me know if the main are in an .iso dvd image after the initial unzipping.

first of all thanx a lot for the game.. i love u brother..
few useful comments -
1. The game is very good and works fine. i am playing without any problem.
2. after downloading u will get two files (i hope so )
one is *.nfo file and second is "TW1.1a.7z" named file.
3. please make sure u have winrar installed on ur pc
4. extract the TW1.1a.7z file by right clicking and choosing the extract option
5. plz wait for some time as the extraction does take some time so just be patient. call ur gf or if u dont have a gf like me than go to kitchen and eat something or have a drink. just kill few minutes.

6. after extraction u will get two folders and one text file.
7. open the text file for help and follow the steps properly.
8. trust me thats all u need.

no need to install the game. u just have to follow the above steps and the game will work.

when u want to run the DT pro try running it as administrator if u find some error or something like that. actually i found some issue thats why i am telling u.

i can understand that the DT pro installation is bit tricky.. i actually needed it for assassin's creed lil time back.. so i already have it on my pc.. to be true that program is also working properly. just follow the steps and when u want to run it choose to run as administrator.

guys plz dont even speak about trojans and all... i have full version bitdefender (which i bought because i was fed up with useless anti virus softwares.. i have nortan and mcafee also..which i also bought as i am a fool...) and it didnt detect any trojan or anything.. Hello pple of good will!

This is my first time posting with a problem.

For this case, I did everything and it went well until I came to this step: "NOW. Start DT PRO and 'ADD a virtual IDE Drive', Go to -->Tools-->Add IDE Virtual Drive
IT MUST BE IDE DRIVE, NOT another ScSI Drive as DT sets up by default."

My problem is, it won't allowed me to click on "Add IDE Virtual Drive". In another word, its all grayed out. I've tried to uninstall and reinstalled DT Pro and still of no used.

I'm currently running Win XP x64. Does that have to do with the problem I'm facing? BTW, I also have DAEMON Tools Lite (4.12.3) installed.

Any help or answered would be appreciated. Thx in advance.

When i unzip the file, there is nothing in the patch folder for DT Tools Pro? There is a dtproAdv-keyl33van.4100218 but nothing in the patch folder. I downloaded the torrent 100%, every file (i mean, there's only 2 files) so I cant see why i cant install it. I have not tried running the image on an unpatched DT pros - people don't recommend this, right?

Hey guys I need help. I've followed readme file through many times and when i get to the final step Open the game folder.

Start the game with launcher.exe

Doesn't work for me..
i installed DT Pro, cracked that
mounted the NS_TW_SS-poseden.mds with an IDE drive
turned on all the required emulators
run the regsetup (pops up a CMD box and then closes within seconds) , then launch it with the launcher.
get ''Please insert the original DVD of 'The Witcher'.''

Running Vista 64bit...normally would blame 64bit as the cause of the problem but seems that 32bit users have the same problem.

For me, as Im running vista, I just right click and "run as administrator"
Seems to have solved all problems. You only need to do this the first time you create a new IDE drive.

Other than that...follow all steps - TO THE LETTER

First a big thank to Dopeman for the release..

And as the most people here i got a problem with DT Pro..i installed it (on a fresh system..so no Deamon tools on hdd before)..i applied the patch, but when i start it says:

"In order to register and validate your personal copy of DAEMON Tools Pro you have to provide your e-mail adress wich was used when purchasing this software application"

Whats up? Didnt the patch applied right?..anyways...i tryed to enter a fake e-mail but when i hit ok it says

"Connection to server failed, please check your I-net connection and any Firewalls you may have."

Wich is stupid, since without Net connection i wouldnt write here now..and as about firewall..surely i shut it off completly during install and "registration"..

Any Ideas? Did anybody got the same problem or know whats up..or how to solve it? Im thankfull for any hint..maybe via e-mail *sizzlik(at)gmx(dot)de*

TO ANYONE WHO IS UNABLE TO UPDATE / GETTING THE "THE WITCHER IS NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY" ERROR

More than likely you dragged The Witcher folder to another directory than the one it was extracted to.

How to fix:
Start -> Run -> regedit

Backup if you are scared about changing this if you want to.
The string you are looking for is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CD Projekt Red\The Witcher

You will now see InstallFolder on the right panel. Double click it, and make sure the "Value Data" matches the directory the game is in.

So if you your game is in C:\Program Files\The Witcher
that is what this line should read. If not change it, save it, and try the patch again.

I wrote a comment not long ago but it disappeared... Nevermind there is no chance of upgrading this version to 1.4 (enchanted edition). I tested it - the 1.4 patch and it just doesnt work.

I can confirm too that this version works to the 1.3 version with no problem. (tested)

I have used 2 different clone drives and windows api and still can't get it to work. If I try to open the file it acts like it wants to open a widow but automatically closes, what am I doing wrong? Is it because I have vista or am I just using the wrong program to open the file with?

Iff anyone has the same problem as knightkiller, then I know 2 solutions:

1. You dont have the lastest driver for your video card
Solution: Update your driver at the website of your manufacturer

2. You have the game folder in the download folder.
Solution: You should copy everything you've downloaded, and paste it in x:\programfiles (replace x with your hard drive, most likely c).
Then rename the folder to The Witcher, and enjoy!

The NFO file when i open it with notepad all it is is the general information you see on the "Download this torrent" page saying what the torrent contains and follow the read me file etc no actual read me...

i have done everything the read me says and now i go to launch the game the little witcher thing comes up like it should giving options of launch game, register game, etc. press lauch game and it wait a few seconds and then comes up with an error can anyone think of anything i should check?

btw whats supposed to happen when u hit regsetup cause i press it and all a black box pops up for like half a second and dissapears? im thinking something is wrong there?

Yes can anyone help me plse with 1 thing. I followed the directions on readme and have everything working fine. I can play the game fine and everything, but the one part I am confused about is the last comment on readme about getting the crack. Where and how do you get this crack from DT pro so I dont have to mount the image to play the game ever again. Please please please help me on this. Thank you

the game works the generic trojan thing comes up on most patches that you dl from here and there are also some on the computer when you get a new one so dont worry great game not real trojan

Downloaded this version... Installed like he said... everything went fine... I can open the game, but after the loading screen, my screen goes black, its the game that get black, not the screen basically, so the game doesn't work for me... I can alt tab and get back in... still black screen... I believe my drivers are up to date, or at least, up to date of when the game came out...

Help anyone?

Yoyo I found a solution.
Okay, make a shortcut of witcher from the system folder in The Witcher Enhanced Edition folder.
Once the (cracked)shortcut of the game is on your desktop, right click and select properties.
Click on the Compatibility tab and check the "Run in 640x480 screen resolution".


Start the game. It should work.
Hope it helped.

so i download the game, then I click "read me" and downloaded daemon tool pro. (uninstalled all of them restarted) And then I download the crack daemon tool. It doesn't work neither is there a patch in the folder confused. please help by any chance.
