From the Wikipedia article : As an artist born under the Ancien Régime, François Adrien Boieldieu learnt his craft during the Terror, won fame during Napoleon's Consulate and Empire, was honored by the Bourbons, and then ruined by the July Revolution. He remains the principal French opera composer of the first quarter of the 19th century. His influence on opera long outlived him.
