Description:
These are tapes I made from 1990 - around 1997 I guess, of pirate radio stations in North London. (The exception being `the death of music` which is largely stuff taped off a legit station but which used to play good music). I\\\'ve tried to improve the sound a little, cut out ads etc, but ultimately you\\\'re hearing low-power mono broadcasts taped using a cheap deck on (for the most part) old tapes. Still, the music is great - the majority being from when people used STs or Amigas to make music and had the let the ideas speak for themselves, instead of the slick, specious gangster wanksta twat rap samples and tedious `intelligent` drum and bass which took over the scene from around 1996 onwards. A few years after that `uk garage` came along and practically all of the pirates jumped ship, meaning the era of tens of pirate stations simultanouesly playing decent underground jungle/drum and bass was gone forever.
