Bye Bye is a song co-written by American singer Mariah Carey and Johnta Austin and Stargate for Carey\'s eleventh studio album, E=MC2, and is the second single from the album. The single was produced by Carey and Stargate. MTV stated that although the song appears to be about her deceased father, Carey extends this song about death to be for anybody who has just lost somebody. Carey believed that by making Bye Bye more open, everybody could be healed by the song and have their own experience listening to it. The director of the video is Justin Francis. The video consists of multiple scenes with Carey and her husband Nick Cannon, along with various behind-the-scenes footage of Carey at various promotional events. The video then closes with pictures of various deceased people, including David Cole, Pavarotti, and Luther Vandross, all with whom Carey had collaborated with during her career. The song debuted in the UK at No.88 on May 19th 2008, a month before its official release, and climbed to No.56 the following week.
