Description:
For the Hummel and modern piano fans: some more Hummel works on 2 CDs which add to the already quite big Hummel collection to be found on melomaniacos.com. Found those two discs in my library. Cover pictures retouched.
Not sure how to assess and describe properly Giuliana Corni's playing style. Her Hummel sounds rather modern and sprightly, even ligthhearted and funny at times. Actually she plays how she looks (lighthearted and funny), which you can verify when you see her photo in the booklet.
Her playing reminds me somehow of Buchbinder's playing: rather perfect, very "clean" and more an aesthetic than a deep emotional or stirring experience. I do miss some mystique and indefiniteness in that sort of playing. Everything is clearly defined, not only because of her clean touch but also because of the extremely clean sound of the piano (a typical Steinway, I think). That playing sure got its own appeal and sometimes produces quite original musical effects. Hope, some folks will like that Hummel edition which claims to be a "first recording".
