Description:
This recording is from the time when the 32 Sonatas recorded here (in 1969) were still the "complete sonatas" by Cimarosa. In the meantime, it seems, they found more of those, and 88 sonatas are now available on a three CD set, played on a fortepiano. Here's a link to audio samples of that 3 CD edition. Would be great if someone had that set and could share it.
BTW, those "Sonatas" aren't really sonatas in the usual sense. They are just simple, nice pieces in one movement.

From the booklet: Here is a recording of the complete selection of this set, written in 1799. The Sonatas are short pieces in one movement, their formal and stylistic models being obviously Domenico Scarlatti's Sonatas. The operatic composer is clearly apparent from the lively rhythms, abundant and songful melodic inspiration, virtuoso coloraturas and dramatic silences. Thus each Sonata is a kind of instrumental Aria, to which only words are missing. No profundity or bold innovations are to be expected from Cimarosa's pen. His art remains wholly faithful to the courtly ideal of its day, and only aims at playful relaxation. But these Sonatas are true gems, imbued with purest classicism.
