Description:
Formerly Top Secret until March 2008 - these documents have been requested under UK\'s Freedom Of Information Act. These documents detail the preparations taken and what the UK Government would have done in the event of an outbreak of war (most likely nuclear). Preparations for BBC Broadting Studios to be relocated - all commercial and BBC transmissions would have ceased with a new radio station - WTBS (War time broadcasting service) to advice the population what to do during this period.
In paricular, the actual message to advise the nation is detailed here, in is various revisions and drafts. To my knowledge, no actual audio recording exists (or has been made available to the public, at least) but what is known is that the BBC Radio 4 presenter Peter Donaldson was the voice chosen to make these recordings to be broadcast should the WTBS system be activated.
These documents reveal the planning - some mundane - some fascinating - that went into the construction of a national emergency radio service.
Plus - this time last year - this document was still top secret! ;)
These documents are not avaiable electronically - I was posted 2 VERY HEAVY A4 envelopes with a LOT of A4 photocopied documents. 2 weeks of painstaking scanning later - I am making these documents avaialble to the torrentsphere. Enjoy!
